Boost Your Child's Learning with Canvas-Understanding Assignment Feedback
Want to help your child get the most out of their assignments and truly thrive in their learning? Canvas offers powerful tools to help you do just that, and understanding assignment feedback is key!
Tip: Monitor Assignment Feedback Regularly
Don't let valuable teacher feedback go unnoticed! Canvas makes it easy to stay informed. Log in regularly and navigate to your child's courses. Look for the "Grades" section, where you'll find a list of assignments and associated feedback. This might include written comments, annotated documents, or even audio/video feedback. Make it a habit to review this feedback with your child. Consider setting aside a few minutes each week to discuss recent assignments and identify trends in the feedback.
Trick: Encourage Active Engagement with Feedback
Feedback isn't just about a grade; it's a roadmap for improvement. Don't just glance at the score and move on. Encourage your child to actively read and process the feedback. Help them understand it by asking open-ended questions like:
- "What did the teacher like about your work on this assignment?" (Focuses on strengths and reinforces positive behaviors)
- "What specific suggestions did the teacher make for improvement?" (Identifies concrete areas for growth)
- "Do you understand all of the teacher's comments? Is there anything you'd like to ask them about?" (Promotes clarification and self-advocacy)
- "How can you apply this feedback to future assignments?" (Connects feedback to future learning)
By engaging with feedback in this way, your child can gain a deeper understanding of the material, identify areas where they need support, and develop strategies for improvement. This not only boosts their grades but also fosters a growth mindset and a love of learning. Remember, feedback is a gift – help your child unwrap it!

Hello Marine families!
Just a few reminders for this month as we roll into March. First, we have been scheduling students into classes for next year. At this point, students have entered their requests into Skyward with our assistance and we will be moving towards creating the schedule. If you have any questions about classes your son/daughter has picked, please reach out to their school counselor. Students with last names beginning A-M will contact Mrs. Klein and those students with last names beginning L-Z will contact Ms. Zablocki. You can call 715-735-1305 and be transferred to their office. Second, please make sure your son/daughter is getting to school every day and on time, including homeroom and Anchor Hour. If students receive a 3rd or 4th tardy from their teacher they will have to serve a detention with that teacher after school. Repeated tardiness will result in detentions after school until 4 pm plus a parent meeting with their teacher and me.
Also, as grades start to come in, please double check Skyward and Canvas to monitor what their grades are and if they have any missing assignments. Spring Break will be here soon and runs the week of March 10th. If your son/daughter is involved in a Spring Sport, there could be practices starting during that time. Third term also ends on March 31st. After that, we only have one term left of the school year which concludes on Thursday, June 5th.
The end of the year is going to come quickly so please be sure to keep monitoring those grades and attendance. Thank you for all that you do to make our school and district such a great place to be!

Hello MHS Families,
As we move into March, we’re entering a crucial stretch of the school year. With spring just around the corner, it’s a time of renewal and growth – both in nature and in our learning journey. Our students have already accomplished so much, and we are excited to see them continue to excel as they embrace new challenges and opportunities.
This month, our focus remains on academic achievement, attendance, and career readiness. We are proud to support our students as they prepare for the ACT and PreACT, engage in clubs and activities, and build their Academic and Career Portfolios (ACP). Additionally, maintaining strong attendance is a priority, as it lays the foundation for academic success and future opportunities. These goals reflect our commitment to helping every student succeed, not only today but well into their future.
Speaking of the ACT, we are just a few weeks away from this important milestone for our Junior class. Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 25th, as our Juniors will be taking the ACT. More information will be shared soon to help students feel prepared and confident for this important day. Additionally, the PreACT for 9th and 10th grades will be taking place in April, setting the stage for future success.
We know that family involvement is a key factor in student success. We encourage you to stay engaged and connected by monitoring grades, maintaining open communication with your child’s teachers, and simply asking about their day. Your support and encouragement truly make a difference.
As we enter this season of growth and possibility, let’s keep up the momentum together. Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to celebrating our students' successes as we head into spring!
Warm regards,
Mr. Steve Linssen
Principal, MHS

The Marinette Fishing Team was at the WIFA State Tournament in Lacrosse for a cold/windy weekend full of fishing. Marinette finished the weekend in 28th place out of 79 teams. The team was able to catch a limit of bluegills, perch and northern pike, but couldn't scrape together a limit of bass or crappies. Some highlights from the weekend were Tom Lauren's 28 inch northern pike and Mason Floriano's 17 inch bass. Connar Eastman and Jacob Sadowski were able to jig up a bunch of nice bluegills as well. Also, it was nice to get all of our Seniors (Brady Eastman, Brock Siebers, Dillion Dodsworth, and Evan Berg) down to their first State tournament. This group of young men have exceeded expectations over the last 4 years and sure will be missed. | |
