Project Update

September 2nd — September 15th

The Town of West Hartford will begin roadway reclamation on LaSalle Road from September 15th through October 10th as part of the West Hartford Center Infrastructure Project. Work will begin on the east side of LaSalle Road and move to the west side once complete. Each side is expected to take approximately two weeks.

Roadway reclamation is a paving method where the existing asphalt pavement and a portion of the underlying base are pulverized, blended, and reused in place before being paved with new asphalt. This method is more sustainable than a simple mill and overlay, reduces waste, and creates a stronger, longer-lasting road surface. A change in scope was necessary after unforeseen issues arose during earlier construction.

To maintain accessibility during construction:

  • Traffic flow will remain one-way. While work is on the east side, traffic will flow southbound only. When work shifts to the west side, traffic will flow northbound only.
  • Businesses will remain open and accessible. All crosswalks will stay open, and driveway access will be maintained with temporary gravel ramps.
  • To support local businesses, the Town is offering free on-street parking on LaSalle Road and Farmington Avenue during the project. Visitors can also find alternative parking using the WeHa Parking Finder App, and the Town Center Garage will remain open.

We appreciate the community’s patience as we continue these important infrastructure improvements. Stay informed by visiting the West Hartford Center Project webpage or contact CenterConstruction@westhartfordct.gov with questions.

In the News

Bike West Hartford recently hosted its annual Center Streets event - a festive “block party on wheels” where Farmington Avenue, LaSalle Road, South Main Street, and Memorial Road were closed to cars for four lively hours. The result? A vibrant, pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly scene filled with live music, brunch specials, children’s chalk art and safety demos, and a pop-up bike lane connecting the Trout Brook Trail to downtown.

If you need additional copies of outreach materials, such as window signs, or have any questions, please feel free to contact us at CenterConstruction@westhartfordct.gov — we’re happy to assist.

As construction progresses, we're working to maximize on-street parking for customers and visitors. To help, we encourage employees to use alternative parking options, including the Town Center Parking Garage, which offers reduced rates for retail and restaurant employees working in the Center.

The Town Center Garage rates are far lower than other options! The rates are $4.50 for up to an 8.5-hour shift and $7 for anything over 8.5 hours.
