Your Health Your Hospital MRI/Equipment Campaign Update

Pictured above is Kevin Tackaberry, BDHF Vice Chair and Dawn Tymianski, BHDF Chair and YHYH Campaign Co-Chair.

On September 30th, we launched the "Go Pink" month with a lively BBQ event hosted at Brockville Home Hardware! The gathering saw a mix of familiar and new faces, all eager to rally behind the Your Health Your Hospital Campaign. Attendees were excited to capture moments with the striking "Trucking for a Cure" pink transport graciously provided by the Tackaberry family.

The BBQ was a great success with supporters coming as far away as Kingston. We raised close to $1000 over the lunchtime at the very busy Home Hardware. A shout out to all the volunteers from the Home Hardware staff to our Board members and thanks to The Butcher Shop for the meat. The Pink Truck was amazing!

In addition to the BBQ on September 30, our brand new transport trailer showcasing the Your Health Your Hospital campaign was on display. This trailer will remain at Brockville Home Hardware until October 31. Capture the spirit of community and support by taking photos with our eye-catching trailer. Share your pictures on social media using #GoPinkBDHF to spread the word and encourage others to join us in making a positive impact.

The transport will be moving to a new location for the month of November. Any guesses where it end up?

Hint: This company is a big supporter of the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation and Brockville General Hospital!

On October 1, The Pink Cup treated us to a thrilling weekend of volleyball excitement. From intense spike showdowns to incredible saves, the event was nothing short of magical. Heartfelt congratulations to the champion team! Your exceptional skill, strategic prowess, and unwavering passion for the game truly distinguished you. To the last-place team and every team in between, your shared passion and energy fostered an atmosphere of genuine camaraderie and joy. A huge shoutout to all the teams, players, and fans whose contributions made this weekend an unforgettable spectacle in the world of volleyball!

The realization of The Pink Cup owed much to the tireless efforts of Steve McKend! Steve, a key member of the Your Health Your Hospital campaign cabinet, played a pivotal role. His unwavering commitment and visionary contributions were instrumental in making this event a reality. Without his dedication, alongside the invaluable support from our community and generous sponsors, The Pink Cup would not have been possible.

Thank you!

I've had the honor of working with the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation for over 10 years and I'm constantly amazed with the Community's generosity relative to the size of the population. As we close in on the finish line of this campaign, the acquisition of the MRI and other important equipment will take BGH to new levels of service and convenience for our patients.

Thank you Brockville and Area for your overwhelming support!

A word from Brockville General's Mammography Team

The Canadian Cancer Society states that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Thanks in large part to increased awareness of breast cancer and screening programs such as the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) we are now routinely diagnosing breast cancer before symptoms develop, which greatly improves prognosis.

Our new Mammography unit will have greater testing capabilities. This will provide our community access to tests previously only available in larger centers.

A Message from Trish Buote, Executive Director

Thank you for your steadfast support. Without you, none of our accomplishments this year would have been possible. As the needs of our community evolve, what remains constant is the dedication of our physicians, clinicians and health care staff, whose commitment to caring for patients underpins everything we do. Your generosity is vital to ensure our health care staff have the equipment and support they need to keep our community safe and healthy, today, tomorrow and in the future. Please know that we will continue to advocate for you, and for the Leeds & Grenville community, to ensure the best medicine is delivered locally.

Donor Spotlights

Swinging for Good: A Generous Drive to Donate $3,500 with Golf Ball Sales

Mario Pereira recently contributed a generous donation of $3,500 to the Your Health Your Hospital campaign, specifically directed toward funding an MRI for Brockville General Hospital. This act of philanthropy marks another significant chapter in Mario's ongoing support for the Foundation, a commitment that has spanned several years.

Featured in our Caring Times Newsletter back in January 2023 (check out his article on page 4!), Mario's dedication to our cause continues to inspire us. Despite currently residing in Kingston, Mario remains deeply connected to his hometown of Brockville. His commitment to supporting our fundraising endeavors for the MRI stems from a personal understanding of the challenges associated with traveling for medical appointments. Mario's compassionate contribution exemplifies the impact one individual can have on improving healthcare accessibility for their community.

Cathy Tekamp's Generous Donation Advances Breast Health

We are thrilled to highlight a remarkable act of generosity that is making a significant impact on breast health. Cathy Tekamp, a compassionate individual with a keen awareness of community needs, has generously donated funds to support the acquisition of breast markers. This invaluable contribution comes after Cathy engaged in a meaningful conversation with Dr. Swett-Constantino.

During her discussion with Dr. Swett-Constantino, Cathy became acutely aware of the critical role breast markers play in enhancing diagnostic precision and overall patient care. These markers, essential tools used in breast imaging, contribute to the early detection of abnormalities, allowing for more accurate diagnoses and timely interventions.

Thank you, Cathy, for your selfless and compassionate spirit. Your support will undoubtedly resonate through the lives of many, contributing to a healthier and brighter future for our community.

Imagine Brockville life campaign launches

On Tuesday the City of Brockville, Brockville General Hospital, and the Employment and Education Centre (EEC) unveiled a new recruitment campaign designed to attract much-needed healthcare professionals to the area.

“This has been an exciting partnership between Brockville General, the City and EEC,” says Monique Sauvé, Brockville General Recruitment and Retention Specialist. “Together, in collaboration with our Human Resources and Marketing and Communications teams, we are reaching healthcare professionals across the country to consider Brockville as their new home.”

The campaign asks healthcare professionals to imagine life with a 5-minute commute and to see all that Brockville has to offer: exceptional work opportunities with a short commute, limitless activities with more time to enjoy them, and an unrivaled lifestyle that’s still affordable.

“Living in Brockville has afforded me the opportunity to really embrace the outdoor lifestyle with my family, which I love,” says Monique.

Monique and her family relocated from the busy Niagara region three years ago and for her, it was the right choice.

“The Brockville General Hospital is an exceptional community hospital, we are all committed to the same goal, providing excellence in patient-centered care,” Monique says.

The campaign features twelve stories from people living and working in Brockville including healthcare professionals. The stories, along with key information about relocating to Brockville, can be viewed at imagine.brockville.life
