Stay Safe and Conserve Energy:
3-10pm Window is Critical
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LAKE COUNTY, CA (August 17, 2020) – On Saturday, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) issued a “Flex Alert,” asking residents to conserve energy each day from 3-10pm, through Wednesday of this week, to reduce the likelihood of rotating electrical outages:
Lake County residents and businesses must do our part. Here are 7 steps you should take from 3-10 pm, “the most critical time of the day… when temperatures remain high and solar production is falling due to the sun setting,” per CAISO:

  • Set your thermostat to 78° or higher, if health permits
  • Refrain from major appliance use; turn off unnecessary lights and
appliances
  • Unplug unused electrical devices
  • Close blinds and drapes
  • Use fans when possible
  • Limit time the refrigerator door is open

Before 3pm, you can take steps to prepare your home or business for the Flex Alert period:

  • “Pre-cool” homes, or lower air conditioning thermostats to 72
degrees
  • Charge mobile devices and laptops
  • Charge electric vehicles
  • Run dishwashers, washing machines and other major appliances
