C.R. Supply selects Glendale
C.R. Supply, a California-based global distributor of energetic metal powders such as zirconium metal powder, zirconium hydride, zirconium/nickel powder, and titanium hydride has selected Glendale for its new manufacturing facility. The company closed escrow on two vacant industrial parcels at 5233 W Luke Avenue. They plan to invest $1 to $1.5 million into a new 10,000 square foot building and equipment and will initially hire 15 employees with the goal of doubling their facility size in the next year or two to over 20,000 square feet. Their process uses electric furnaces and anticipates little-to-no emission from their facility, which will supply industrial, auto and aerospace manufactures.

A Note from Linda of Papa Ed's
in Honor of their 10th Anniversary
Did you ever have a time in your life when you felt it was the right time to take a leap of faith and "Just Do It?" My time was in March of 2007 when I had the opportunity to move into Glendale with my business partner, Cheryl Kappes and begin the journey of owning a business property in Catlin Court. We purchased the property at 7146 N. 58th Ave. which has 2 buildings on it. How perfect, we could each have our own business and share the experience of being business owners together.

I immediately knew what the back building could be transformed into - an old fashioned ice cream parlor and outdoor garden. Needless to say, after a complete remodel of the back building and ice cream training 101, Papa Ed's Ice Cream opened it's doors on May 10, 2008.

The journey of the past 10 years has been amazing and our family has grown to include so many wonderful people that I probably wouldn't have met if I hadn't taken that leap of faith. "Thank You" to everyone who has supported us along the way and been a part of making Papa Ed's Ice Cream what it is today, a gathering place for a sweet experience.

Sincerely,
Linda Moran-Whittley

Congratulations to Dr. Ruiz of Glendale Community College
Dr. Teresa Leyba Ruiz of Glendale Community College has been awarded the prestigious  Aspen Presidential Fellowship for Community College Excellence , a leadership program aimed at preparing the next generation of community college presidents to transform institutions across the nation to help students be more successful both in college and in the workforce.

The fellowship is awarded by the Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program, an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, D.C. that aims to advance higher education practices, policies, and leadership that significantly improve student outcomes.

“I cannot imagine a better opportunity for a new president – to bring student success into sharp focus while collaborating with other presidents across the country experiencing the same challenges,” Dr. Ruiz said.

APS: Powering Our Community's Future
APS has been a major champion for Arizona communities since we began operating in the late 1800’s. We proudly support the Glendale Chamber of Commerce and chambers throughout Arizona, both financially and by leveraging our resources and expertise. Additionally, APS provides critical support to cities and towns throughout the State. One example is our Community Service Fund (CSF), an employee-driven campaign that predates the United Way in Arizona. Now a long-time partner with United Way of Arizona, our CSF program matches fifty cents on each dollar contributed by our employees and has grown to be a leader in Arizona as a top contributor year after year.

But that’s not the whole story! APS employees volunteer their time in the communities where they live and work throughout the state, providing more than 110,000 hours in 2017, which is equivalent to $2.65 million dollars in labor value. APS employees serve on nearly all chamber boards within our operating territory as well as the state and national chambers of commerce. Along with working closely with cities, counties and towns to attract jobs and economic growth, APS has always been there serving with community partners to provide the safety net our communities need to remain healthy and vibrant. Continuing to grow, support and partner with a healthy Arizona on all fronts while supplying reliable and affordable energy to power our future is what we are all about!

Arizona@Work & Governor Ducey Aim to Help Jobseekers
A major initiative set forth by Governor Doug Ducey, in partnership with ARIZONA@WORK and the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO), that includes a statewide effort to boost jobseekers’ opportunities. Arizona’s employers have made it known repeatedly that they have difficulty finding job candidates with the foundational academic, personal, and technical skills needed to be successful in their businesses. The Arizona Career Readiness Credential (ACRC) is our state’s validation of these competencies.

We ask employers to visit acrc.az.gov to learn more and to sign up as champions of this program...

This program has two major goals: (1) to ensure every Arizona employer has access to the most skilled workforce anywhere in the country, and (2) to prepare job seekers for the realities of the workplace by helping them develop or validate these foundational skills and open new doors to high quality career opportunities.
