MARCH 2020
For a better us.
Dear Y Community:
As we are all aware, the spread of the COVID-19 virus has made its way to several locations in the United States including confirmed cases in Michigan. The number of public universities closing out of an abundance of caution is extraordinary. Several agencies are cancelling non-essential travel and group meetings.
In the past couple of weeks (and again yesterday) we have emphasized that the best guidance and information is currently located on the Center for Disease Control’s website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html
Another resource is the Michigan.gov coronavirus link:

And locally, the Saginaw County Health Department website: https://www.saginawpublichealth.org/page.asp?ID=3486

We have several visual posts around the Y and will update as needed. The CDC and other health official emphasize the importance of the following prevention measures:
a)        Frequent washing of hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
b)       Cover cough/sneeze in your sleeve (not hand).
c)        Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
d)       Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces.
e)       Avoid close contact with those who are ill.
f)         Remain home if a fever is present. Call health care provider before seeking care.

The YMCA in partnership with our cleaning partners (Patriot Cleaning, YCAN, and our Y Clean Team) has reviewed and discussed new/best result cleaning and sanitizing practices based on guidance from the Center for Disease Control.
Our custodial personnel have increased efforts to sanitize objects and surfaces most frequently touched (desktops, doorknobs, etc.). As we focus our custodial crews on surface sanitization, a few other items such as dusting may become a lower priority.
We have open and effective lines of communication with our public health officials and will alert members as we receive specific direction related to COVID-19. As this time the YMCA will remain open, however some programs and classes will be altered. We will remain open unless ordered to close by the Saginaw County Health Department or if advised by YMCA of the USA (Y-USA). We ask that you practice personal responsibility and decision regarding your attendance or participation at the YMCA during this unprecedented time.
We will continue to monitor the CDC and local and state health official recommendations and provide up to date communications with our YMCA stakeholders.
