Valentine’s 5K recap!
The postponement of February 14th’s Valentine’s 5K due to lingering snow & ice did not dull the turnout at the rescheduled event on February 21st! A big crowd of 301 runners & walkers enjoyed the usual rolling loop around Kinder Farm Park’s now ice-free paths. And although the warmth from our race site's fire pit felt good, it was not as needed as in some years, with temperatures rising to the upper 40°s by race time.
New club member Orion Boylston of Severna Park squeaked out the overall men’s win in a blazing 16:57, with last year’s champ Scott Koehler only a few seconds behind. The top women posted equally impressive performances, with Baltimore’s Aisling O'Connell cruising to an 18:36 finish and Chesapeake Beach’s Katie Demers not far back in 18:57. Third place finishers Lisa Levin (20:55) and Michael Insler (17:07) took the top Masters prizes. The race also saw many great finishes by the graduating members of our Winter 5K Beginning Runners Program, clad in sharp-looking red Olympic-themed shirts!
Race director Delia Edelmann did a wonderful job as usual, capably assisted by many volunteers. Big thanks to everyone who took part!

Annapolis Ten Mile Run
Sunday, August 30th, 2026
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium
Fees go up on Sunday!
With our first month of A-10 registration coming to a close, now is the time to take advantage of our special early-bird pricing if you haven’t done so already! $65 (plus processing) is an absolute steal for a top-tier road race these days, especially given all you get from the A-10— a high-quality finisher premium, a packet pick-up freebie, great support out on the course, and food & drink afterwards, among other things. So why put off signing up? Head to RunSignup.com/A10 right now and get yourself registered for our August 30th event!
Even if you miss out on the February deal, the fee is only going up by five bucks on March 1st, so it’s not like the A-10 will suddenly be unaffordable. And don’t forget— Annapolis Striders members get a big $10 discount!
HELP WANTED: More than 1,100 people have already signed up for the 2026 A-10, and we are looking for a few more volunteers to help us on the A-10 Race Committee. If you've ever wanted to get more involved, now is your chance! No past experience is required. A full list of available roles is available here. Email race director Rose Dziedzic at a10@annapolisstriders.org with any questions or to get involved!

2026 MD-DC RRCA 10M Club Challenge
Congratulations to all of you who came out to race Sunday, February 22nd, in Columbia, Maryland on a tough hilly course with a cold wintery mix of precipitation. Of the 41 Annapolis Striders that signed up for the race, 32 made it to the finish line. Our no-show rate was 22% which was a bit better than the overall race average of 27%.
We took 10th of 13 in the coed competition, 9th of 14 in the men's competition, and 10th of 13 in the women's competition. Our best age group was the Male Grand Masters division finishing 5th of 10. Our Male Masters were 7th of 9. Female Grand Masters were 7th of 9 teams. Female under 40 were 8th of 8. While the Male under 40 and Female Masters age groups did not have 4 finishers to meet the minimum number of runners required to compete.
Our fastest female runner of the day was Elizabeth Nabors finishing in a blistering time of 1:19:53. The fastest male runner for the team was Martin Shpuntoff bolting across the finish line in 1:05:08.
Thank you to our photographers, Karsten and Denise! Here are a few photos they took in the new gym at Howard Community College before the race. More photos are becoming available on the race website.
I hope to see everyone back next year at the 2027 MD-DC RRCA 10 Mile Club Challenge.

B&A Trail Marathon and Half Marathon – Volunteer Opportunities
This year’s edition of the B&A Trail Marathon and Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, starting and finishing at Severna Park High School. Although race day is drawing near, select volunteer opportunities remain available. If you act now, one of these coveted volunteer positions could be yours.
Truck Crew – I would like two or three of my fellow Striders to serve as the truck crew for this year’s event. Duties would include delivering supplies to the six aid stations on the course, and then, once the races are over, picking up the supplies and hauling them back to the storage facility on West Street. As with all our volunteer positions, no prior experience is needed.
Aid Station Staffing – I have a need for volunteers to staff two of the Aid Stations on the racecourse. Specifically, I need volunteers to staff Aid Station #3, which is on the B&A Trail just north of Robinson Road, and Aid Station #4, which is on the B&A Trail just north of Earleigh Heights Road. Each of these Aid Stations is on the marathon-only portion of the racecourse and the marathoners will pass each of the Aid Stations twice.
To claim one of these volunteer positions, please contact Tom Lyden at toml@annapolisstriders.org.

Annapolis Striders Training/Education
Update from Bob Moseley,
VP of Training and Education
| | |
Current Training Programs: Our Half Marathon training program, led by Elizabeth Nabors, is in week 9 and there are 102 registered runners. Our 10k program and Annapolis 10 Mile programs are next on tap; keep an eye on the website for further details
Coaching Call: We are always looking for coaches/mentors for our other training programs, such as the 5K, 10K, Jr. Striders and marathon groups. If you’d like to step into coaching and are interested, give me a shout. As an additional incentive for those who are interested in becoming a certified RRCA Road Running Coach, the club can reimburse you for the RRCA Level 1 Certification.
News You Can Use: With the B&A Trail Half Marathon/Marathon fast approaching, those that have not completed a half (and many who have) may be wondering what constitutes a “good” finishing time. Of course, the definition of a good time depends on one’s perspective but here’s a link to an article from Marathon Handbook that provides an excellent treatment of what the numbers say and can give you some sense of where you stand overall in the very popular world of half marathoning. For first timers, finishing is always the primary goal but it’s always nice to have a goal in mind. Here’s the link: https://marathonhandbook.com/whats-a-good-half-marathon-time
See you on the road/trail!
Regards,
Bob

Training plans started on 12/29/2025 with our target race, the B&A Trail Half Marathon, being held on 3/29/2026. Race registration and payment is not included with the training and must be done separately.
Plans will be emailed and can be completed on your own, but we would love to see everyone at our one or both or our two weekly group runs on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
