President's Message:

As financial planners, we each bring our own approach to the profession. Some of us work in large firms, some in small ensembles, and some as solo practitioners. We may operate under different business models, serve different client niches, and use different tools to deliver advice. Yet despite those differences, we share a common purpose: helping people make better decisions with their money and guiding them toward greater financial security.

That shared purpose was on full display at our recent FPA of Michigan Pistons event. Members from across the state gathered to connect, exchange ideas, and enjoy a great evening together. Events like this remind us that while our day-to-day work may look different, we are all part of the same professional community—one committed to advancing the value of financial planning and supporting the clients who trust us with their futures.

The strength of the FPA has always been its ability to bring together professionals with diverse perspectives and practices. When we come together—whether at a game, a conference, or a local gathering—we build relationships that make us better advisors and strengthen our profession as a whole.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Pistons event and continues to support the FPA of Michigan community. I look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming events as we continue to learn from one another and advance the impact of financial planning across our state.

Warm regards,

Nick Nauta, CFP®

President, FPA of Michigan

FPA MI | Lunch & Learn Workshop

From Cradle to Dorm: The Advisor's Guide to MESP

Thursday, April 9th | 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm | Virtual through Zoom

College has never cost more, and all signs indicate prices will continue to increase. At the same time, artificial intelligence and new technology are causing many families to rethink whether a traditional four-year degree is worth the price, and more students are exploring vocational schools, trade certifications, and apprenticeship programs instead. For financial advisors, this shift creates a real opportunity to help clients prepare for whatever path their child ultimately chooses. This presentation will give you the tools to have confident, informed conversations with your clients about education savings. Approved for 1 CFP CE.

Women & Finance Knowledge Circle

Happy National Women's History month! If you have the time, I recommend attending the upcoming March 26th FPA webinar with Cary Carbonaro, sponsored by FPA national's Women & Finance Knowledge Circle. I had the opportunity to meet Cary in person recently at the Nitrogen Fearless Investing Summit in Denver. She has an impressive resume as a financial advisor (and author!) and is now a tireless advocate for women through her service on the Advisory Council for the Women's Leadership Alliance for Financial Advisors. If you're not familiar with the WLA, this is another membership organization providing a lot of resources to women in our profession. Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to learn more about it. And, please join us April 10th at barre3 for our FPA of Michigan Women & Finance Knowledge Circle Move & Mingle event! See you "at the barre!"
