President's Message:

Greetings -

As we wrap up another year, we reflect on our achievements, challenges, and exciting opportunities. Here's a summary of our highlights from the past year and what to look forward to in the coming months.

Year in Review: 2024 has been another excellent year for the Financial Planning Association of Michigan, thanks to the hard work of our members, committees, board members, and partners. We've successfully hosted numerous events, including our annual symposium, education workshops, women & finance gatherings, NexGen virtual meetups, student success golf outing and networking mixers, which have fostered connections among professionals and enriched our collective knowledge.

Education and Professional Development: Our commitment to ongoing education has never been stronger. This year, we continued our monthly education lunch and learns and had a fantastic Fall Symposium focusing on emerging trends in financial planning.

Pro Bono and Advocacy Efforts: The FPA of Michigan has continued its pro bono and advocacy work to promote the value of financial planning in our communities. This includes offering pro-bono financial planning education events (11 events total this year) and our annual financial planning virtual education session for Michigan legislators' staffers. We have planned continued active engagement with policymakers to ensure our profession is represented and supported.

New Membership Growth: We are thrilled to report 47 new FPA of Michigan members year-to-date! Thank you for your continued support and bringing new faces into our community. Remember, our strength lies in our network, so keep referring colleagues and friends.

Upcoming Events: Mark your calendars for our remaining events for the year - click here or see below for details.

Get Involved: Looking for ways to get involved? We encourage members to join one of our committees or volunteer for upcoming events. Your participation makes a difference! If you are interested in joining one of our committees, please contact Sarah Caruana or Mary Medonis and they can connect you with the committee chair.

Stay Connected: Remember to follow us on social media and visit our website for the latest updates. We aim to reach 1300 followers this year! Share your experiences and insights using #FPAMichigan.

Thank you for being a vital part of the FPA of Michigan community. We wish you a prosperous year-end and look forward to achieving more together in 2025!

Best to you,

Julie E. Hall, CFP®, CFT-I ™, MSF

FPA of Michigan 2024 President

It was terrific to meet members of the FPA of Michigan at the Happy Hour in Royal Oak earlier this month. I shared a story with them about the profound impact CFPs have on their clients. I am the biggest fan of the work you do.  Here is the story, if you weren’t there:

An old friend, a retiring life agent, and I were talking about working with CFPs to implement recommendations for life and disability insurance.

He got a serious look on his face and said to me, "Gare, my clients who have hired a CFP have more peace of mind than those who don’t.”

I will never forget those words. Think of how powerful that is. No other advisor can give consumers peace of mind. Not CPAs, stockbrokers, life agents, attorneys… no one but you!

It has been a privilege to refer clients back and forth with CFPs. As a CFP myself for over 30 years I take my recommendations just as seriously as you do.

Hope to meet you next time!

I do not do any planning. I have chosen a career as an independent insurance broker. I serve the CFP community by analyzing disability, life, LTC and LTD plans, and working with them to propose and implement these plans. And I share commissions where allowable.

Please let me know if we can help.
