What are the new IAR CE Requirements, and do they apply to you?

On November 24, 2020, North American Securities Administration Association (NASAA) members elected to adopt an investment adviser representative (IAR) continuing education requirement (CE) with the goal of ensuring that advisers receive proper and updated training on the securities business relevant to their duties and obligations.

In order to meet the demand for the annual IAR CE requirement, several FPA chapters and COMPLY are launching the first annual IAR Continuing Education "Virtual" Workshop on June 27th and 28th.

Over the course of two days, COMPLY’s compliance experts will deliver the 12-credit IAR Continuing Education program virtually to FPA members and non-members. Can’t attend the entire two days? No problem because when you register, you gain unlimited access to COMPLY’s comprehensive IAR CE content library until Dec. 31, 2023, to fulfill your requirements on your time!

FPA Member discounted rate: $95

Non-FPA member rate: $150

Included in the price is:

  • The two-day virtual workshop: Take part in live courses covering Ethics & Compliance and Products & Practices to complete your IAR CE requirements.
  • Access to the IAR CE video library until Dec. 31, 2023: Can’t attend? Complete IAR CE requirements on your time, with access to our full library of on-demand content.
  • Auto-reporting to FINRA: COMPLY will report course completion to FINRA and cover the associated costs.

If you are unsure whether or not you are registered as an Investment Advisor Representative (IAR), go to IAPD - Investment Adviser Public Disclosure - Homepage (sec.gov), search your name, find your record and select “more details”. If under License(s), Michigan is listed as Investment Advisor, the IRA CE requirement applies to you.

Please note that this workshop is for IAR CE's only and does not qualify for CFP CE's or Michigan Insurance CE's.

Calling all members interested in Pro Bono Opportunities! We are excited to bring you the opportunity to volunteer with members of Gilda’s Club of Royal Oak this summer. We are looking to start with an education session for members of Gilda’s, which is individuals and families impacted by cancer – this session will be followed up with a separate offering of one-on-one pro bono financial counseling for any of these members who are interested. *Note you would need to be a CFP® and have taken the FPA National Pro Bono training to participate in the one-on-one pro bono sessions.

FPA National does have some resources available if you have never worked with those impacted by cancer in the past, so don’t let this prevent you from volunteering!

If you are interested in volunteering for this rewarding opportunity, please click here to indicate your interest.

Also, Pro Bono Trained Members interested in being available for pro bono one-on-one counseling work with older adults referred from the Wayne State University Institute of Gerontology’s SAFE (Success After Financial Exploitation Program), please e-mail Sandy Adams, Pro Bono Committee Co-Chair at Sandy.Adams@CenterfinPlan.com. We will be getting referrals from the SAFE program when their older adult clients need counseling on financial planning issues and we can match clients with interested volunteers with appropriate volunteers. Please indicate whether you would be available to do sessions in-person or by phone/virtual for these clients most often in the metro Detroit area.
