"Salt is good; but if salt has lost its saltiness, how can you season it?"
|
|
Many of us know the dangers of too much salt and the High Blood Pressure associated with it… but do we know the true value of the right amount of salt? Salt is necessary to the well–being of our bodies. Unlike my counterparts, I often have bouts of Low-Blood Pressure, by doctor's orders I am to put salt on my tongue when such occurrences happen. Too little salt in our diet can bring physical troubles to us. Likewise, too little “salt” in society can bring about disaster.
So how do we strike the right balance?
Christ calls his followers the “salt of the earth” and instructed us to “have salt in yourselves.” The positive influence of salty Christians enhances and blesses all of society. Too much saltiness and you're liable to restricting yourself to a small group of like minds. Too little saltiness and you're complicit in the way of the world.
The work of Christianity is by no means easy. One can easily be seduced by their own piety and judgment. The challenge is to strike the right balance. Sometimes we are too salty and other times not salty enough. Surely we will never please everyone. The object here is to please God and to invite others along. Sometimes it just takes a little trial and era and some good self-awareness.
Christians are called upon to have the right degree of “saltiness,” offering flavor and preservation, and zestfulness to a tasteless world. Such “doers” of the Word are faithful disciples of our Lord.

One of the many things that makes St. Mary's special is our tradition of giving a handmade baby blanket to a child to commemorate their baptism.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed blankets!
