A Fond Farewell to Debbie Smith and Prayers for your Wardens and Vestry

In the heart of our vibrant community at St. Mary’s, where every individual’s contribution weaves into the rich tapestry of our collective service and faith, it is with a blend of sadness and profound gratitude that we announce the resignation of Debbie Smith, our esteemed Thrift Shop Manager. Debbie, along with her husband Steve, has decided to step down to prioritize their health and well-being, a decision made through deep thought and prayer. Debbie's last day will be March 2nd as they prepare to move to Florida.

Debbie’s journey with us, alongside Steve, has been nothing short of remarkable. As I reflect on the years they have dedicated to St. Mary’s and the broader community of Rio Grande, I am touched by their unwavering commitment and the spirit of love, commitment, and community they have embodied every day. Their service has been a beacon of light and hope, touching the lives of many and contributing significantly to the success of our thrift shop. This success has not only helped us meet our outreach and financial goals but has also strengthened our mission to serve and uplift those around us.

Their departure marks the end of an era but also the beginning of a new chapter for Debbie, Steve, and all of us as a church family, one that we fully support and embrace. As they prepare to embark on this new journey, it’s important to recognize the indelible mark they have left on our community. Their legacy of compassion, hard work, and dedication to service is one that will continue to inspire and guide us for years to come.

May this new chapter bring Debbie and Steve peace, health, and happiness. We pray that God’s grace and blessings light their path forward, filled with love and joy. And let them know, with certainty, that they will always have a home and a family here at St. Mary’s and in the hearts of those in Rio Grande whose lives they’ve touched so deeply.

To Debbie and Steve: thank you, from all of us. Your journey with us has been a profound gift, and while we will miss your daily presence, we carry forward the spirit of your service in every act of kindness and community we foster.

As we navigate through this time of transition and reflection at St. Mary’s, I invite our entire parish community to join in prayer for our Wardens and Vestry as they convene in a Special Vestry meeting to deliberate on the impact of Debbie and Steve Smith’s departure. This meeting is not just about addressing the immediate needs of our beloved Thrift Shop, "This n' That," but also about turning the page on an important chapter in our church’s history. With hearts full of hope and eyes set on a vision for the future, our leaders are tasked with discerning the path forward—a path that honors the legacy of service and community bestowed upon us.

Let us pray for wisdom, unity, and guidance from the Holy Spirit, that our Wardens and Vestry may be inspired with new hope and a renewed vision for St. Mary’s, ensuring that our mission continues to flourish in love and service to God and our neighbors.

In faith and love,

Mo. Allison+
