Celebrating The Branches Outreach in Light of The Great Commission
When Jesus issued the Great Commission, it wasn't merely a task – it was a transfer of authority, trust, and empowerment. He entrusted His disciples to go out and continue His work, assuring them of His everlasting presence.
In the spirit of the Great Commission, where Jesus called upon His disciples to reach out and make a difference in all corners of the world, our vestry came together one year ago to reflect upon the path of the Branches Outreach and our ability to remain the controlling entity effectively.
Guided by prayer and a heart for service, we deeply considered the pressing needs of our community here and in Rio Grande. It became clearly evident that while our congregation is mighty in spirit, we are limited as an aging congregation in size, finances, and various resources as well as bound by certain church regulations. We realized that these constraints might be limiting the Branches Outreach from reaching its fullest potential in serving the homeless and marginalized of Cape May County. After much prayerful discernment and with love for our community, we decided that to embody Christ's call to serve all nations truly; we should grant The Branches the autonomy it needs to flourish. This step ensures it can grow and become all God has intended, continuing its vital mission of care and service.
This past Sunday, our vestry finalized this important decision, and The Branches is well on its way to establishing their very own 501c3 with new bylaws and soon a new board to better meet the needs of God's people. The wardens, vestry, and you can be proud of this incredible selfless, dedicated, caring, and giving action.
A Celebration of Success
I want to express how significant this step is for the Branches Outreach. It's truly wonderful to witness how a seed of an idea for ministry and service has blossomed and grown into such a large, effective, and vital organization to the people of Rio Grande and Cape May County. I am truly in awe of its growth in the short three-and-a-half years of my tenure. This transition to becoming a separate and successful entity is something to be celebrated by all. For St. Mary's, as the founder, has seen many souls who came together to serve Christ and His people selflessly, giving of their time, talent, and treasure. How amazing it is that it has grown beyond our walls! For the Branches, a new chapter with unlimited potential and new resources will benefit all in need. I am sure it will successfully lead to the development of new opportunities to reach and serve God's people and to make the dream of much-needed transitional housing a reality. To God be the Glory!
I am grateful to every soul, past and present, who has dedicated themselves to this vital ministry.
The Branches Outreach, from its inception to its current state, we've seen it grow, flourish, and impact countless lives in the spirit of Christ's teachings. Granting the Branches Outreach its autonomy is akin to sending out a disciple, equipped and empowered, into the world.
The vestry's selfless action, consideration of the needs of others above oneself, hard work, and prayer are to be commended.
Why Autonomy Matters
By granting full autonomy to The Branches, we offer a selfless gift to God's people in Rio Grande. Autonomy will unlock new doors for the organization, allowing it to secure additional resources in people and funding that we at St. Mary's, with our limited capacity, would struggle to provide. It will create new opportunities to serve the marginalized and homeless more effectively and help the organization reach new heights. It will also release our little congregation from any liability. With the increasing needs of the organization and the homeless and marginalized, this is a vital step in providing the best love and care in honoring the dignity of all people, as is required of us in our Baptismal Covenant.

Growth & Expansion: Just as the early disciples expanded the church beyond Jerusalem, autonomy will enable The Branches to reach further, serve better, and touch more lives in Rio Grande.

Unlocked Potential: With autonomy comes the freedom to tap into resources and opportunities that will propel The Branches to greater heights of service and community impact.

Shared Responsibility: Granting autonomy doesn’t mean abdicating responsibility. It signifies trust, partnership, and a shared vision. St. Mary's has laid the foundation, and now The Branches Outreach is ready to build upon it while we continue to support and collaborate.
A New Chapter, An Unchanging Commitment
While we celebrate this significant milestone, let's remember the shared commitment and vision that brought us here. The bond between St. Mary's and The Branches Outreach remains unbroken. Our roles are evolving, but our mission remains unchanged: to serve, love, and embody Christ's teachings in the world.
In Conclusion
In granting The Branches Outreach its autonomy, we're not just celebrating the growth of an organization; we're celebrating our collective obedience to the Great Commission. We're witnessing the power of faith in action, community collaboration, and the transformative impact of love and service. As we embark on this new chapter, let’s continue to glorify God through our collective efforts, ever mindful of Jesus' promise: "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
I want to thank our dedicated wardens and vestry, past and present, who tended to this matter with great care, consideration, selfless love, truthful recognition of our abilities, and dedication to our community here at St. Mary's and in Rio Grande, as well as the president of the board, staff, and volunteers of the Branches Outreach for their support, hard work, love for all of God's people, and continued ministry.
The work of the Holy Spirit is at hand. We can see it revealed in good works every single day and I look forward to how it will manifest in the future.
