What We Carry Into the World
Dear Friends in Christ,
I want to begin this week with a word of heartfelt gratitude. Thank you for your kindness and understanding as I took time away this past Sunday to celebrate a family wedding. There are moments in life when we are reminded just how precious it is to gather with those we love, to celebrate the promises we make to one another, and to give thanks for the relationships that enrich our lives. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share in such a joyful family occasion and for the grace and generosity of this parish community.
I am also looking forward to gathering with you this coming Sunday for our Blessing of the Animals and celebration of God's creation. Together, we will offer prayers of thanksgiving for the beauty of the earth, the creatures who share our lives, and the extraordinary gift of creation entrusted to our care. Our beloved animal companions have a remarkable way of teaching us about unconditional love, patience, companionship, and the simple joy of being present. I hope you will join us as we celebrate these blessings and renew our commitment to caring for all that God has made.
Perhaps it is fitting that this Sunday's Gospel invites us to reflect upon a wedding banquet, a celebration of love, hospitality, and the joy of gathering together. As I have been reflecting on this passage, I find myself returning to a simple question: What do we carry into the world after we have experienced God's love?
There is a great deal of heaviness in our world right now. Many are weary of the anger, uncertainty, and division that seem to surround us. Yet I remain convinced that the quiet, ordinary expressions of compassion we offer one another matter more than we sometimes realize. A kind word, a gentle presence, the willingness to listen, or the courage to stand beside someone who feels alone can become a small but powerful expression of God's grace.
Our Baptismal Covenant reminds us that we are called to seek and serve Christ in all persons and to respect the dignity of every human being. And our care for creation reminds us that this sacred responsibility extends to the world around us, to the land and sea, the animals, and the delicate web of life of which we are all a part.
As our island settles into the quieter rhythms of autumn, I pray that we will continue to be a community where gratitude is freely expressed, kindness is generously shared, and God's love is made visible in the way we care for one another and for creation.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, along with our beloved four-legged, feathered, and other animal friends, as we celebrate the goodness of God's creation together.
With love and blessings,
Mother Allison+
A Prayer of Thanksgiving for Creation
Gracious and loving God, source of all life and giver of every good gift, we thank you for the beauty of your creation, for the love of family and friends, and for the creatures who bring such joy and companionship into our lives. Open our hearts to the wonder of your presence in all that surrounds us. Teach us to walk gently upon the earth, to care tenderly for every living thing, and to meet one another with compassion and gratitude. As the seasons change, renew within us a spirit of thanksgiving, that through our words and actions your love may be made known. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
