"The Garden: Risking Temptation"

On Palm Sunday, we remember how the last week of Jesus’ life began with joy and celebration. However, by the end of that week, we find him in the Garden of Gethsemane praying in anguish. Gethsemane is the moment when a chain of events begins that cannot be halted.

Once Jesus is taken into custody, there is no going back. So we pause a moment with him in the garden just before his arrest, and we feel with him the temptations that arise when facing difficult circumstances—to run, hide, use whatever power we have to change things, fight it, perhaps even bargain with God. We walk among the sleepy disciples who just can’t grasp what is about to happen. And we open to let the story remind us that no matter what we face, or how we fail to meet the demand of the moment, second chances are possible.
Readings: Mark 14:32-36 (with references to John)
COVID-19 UPDATE

  • Effective 12:01AM, April 3, the executive order signed by Florida's governor will go into effect, closing all non-essential businesses. This won't change much as we began adapting to this inevitable decision weeks ago. While SunCoast MCC remains closed to the public, we will continue to LIVE STREAM our Sunday Services, stay in touch on the SunCoast Santuary on FaceBook, hold VIRTUAL classes using ZOOM and publish timely "Messages from Your Pastors and Board of Directors" distributed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We are committed to staying engaged and remain of service to you.

A Message from the Community Development Team at Metropolitan Community Church
by Rev. Elder Hector Gutierrez, Team Lead

Together with the entire staff, we on the Community Development Team at MCC, are here to talk, support and pray with you. Our role with MCC is to work with churches and leaders who are finding their way through this time. Today we write with encouragement and prayer for the Spirit to lead us, to breathe in us new life and new ways of being community.

The current health situation around the world is very serious. For many of us that means we must stay at home, without fear yet with adequate knowledge and information. This is the time to take care of ourselves and those who are most vulnerable. This is the time to demonstrate that although we are physically isolated from one another, we are also united in solidarity, in strength, in empathy, and in hope.
