A lotus cannot be planted in marble. If there is no mud there is no lotus. So if you want to have lotus flowers you have to get mud. If you look deeply at the nature of the lotus you will see the mud. You don't need to look at the mud, just look at the lotus and you will see the mud inside it. You cannot extract mud from the lotus. If I attempted to do, the lotus would cease to be such. Lotus flowers are made up of non-lotus elements, including mud. Happiness is made up of non-happiness elements, including suffering. (Thich Nhat Hahn)
We are facing a "muddy" Easter. We are not - as every years - with our communities to worship Christ's new life. We are not rejoining with all our loved ones. We are lock-down, separated, alone ... in the mud. It is an uncomfortable place to stay in. And we feel unhappy - maybe. But the lotus flower reminds us that mud is the better soil you can flourish from. There is an Italian singer that says in one of his most famous song: "flowers emerge from manure, from diamonds nothing comes". It's a hard truth, but that's really evident! So ... happy "muddy" Easter you all.
