"The Risk of Losing Friends"

On Sunday, Rev. Nancy will share the story of John's gospel. This is the story of the last supper which does not focus on a meal, but on a radical act of egalitarian friendship and service – Jesus washed his friends'–the disciples–feet.

Jesus risked losing friendships in this last week of his life, as his ministry challenged the authorities. Some of his friends were confused, some doubted or lost their nerve. 

We all know what it is like to have deep friendships and to lose friends. This Sunday, we will lean into our faith, and into God's steadfast love and friendship with us!! Jesus is a Friend we never have to lose! In these trying times, we need our friends, and especially our Heavenly Friend!

This collection of ancient prayers, poems and hymns of the Hebrew people address the range of human emotion and conditions; while reading the Psalms sooner or later you will find something that speaks to you and your situation. Here is what you need to do:

The Circle in Milan, Italy and Rev. Mario Bonifanti

Our partnership with The Circle is as strong as ever and we are happy to report that Rev. Mario has switched to virtual meetings and is holding a Lenten series on the following:
  • Fasting from Meat or Plastic?
  • The Damas of History - From the Capture of Jesus to the Gulags
  • Selling Off Freedom in Exchange for Security From Jesus’ Death Sentence to the restrictive measures adopted in Northern Italy inresponse to the Coronavirus

In our weekly communications with Rev. Mario, we have been sharing our individual experiences as we live through this worldwide pandemic and continue to be a resource for each other.
  • He and his family (mom and sister) are all healthy and adjusting well to the changes engulfing Italy, including the government quarantine and closing off borders. He is able to leave his home to go jogging and grocery shopping though his mom is strongly encouraged to stay inside at all times.
  • The Circle received a generous donation that will allow Rev. Mario to have Zoom meetings. Both, The Circle and his Non-Violence Seminars, his current source of income, will benefit as Zoom allows more participants with better connectivity.

Rev. Mario continues to stay positive and is as optimistic as ever even though Italy currently has over 59,000 cases in total with over 5,000 deaths due to the Coronavirus. He shares prayers for the world as we face COVID-19 together and is deeply grateful for our friendship. Rev. Mario offers all of us a warm virus-free hug and a big smile.
