It is our hope that you have found yourself reflecting and asking questions as you have pondered the quotes in our A Good Word: Thoughts on Racial Justice section.
Please join Mimi D'Angelo and members of our Racial Justice Working Group (TONIGHT) at 7:15 pm on Thursday, November 18, for an hour of conversation about the following quote:
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”
Reflection Questions:
Do you agree? Would Jesus agree?

Zoom Interfaith Thanksgiving Service 2021
Monday, November 22nd, 7:00pm
During this time of year, we feel the need to gather in unity, return to our values, and offer gratitude. Wellesley area clergy invite you to join them in fellowship for the second annual Zoom Interfaith Thanksgiving service. Our clergy will lead us in prayer, scriptural readings, song, and words of comfort. Revs. Richard & Jill Edens from the Hills Church will participate. We hope this service (approx. 45 minutes on Zoom) will help you feel connected in faith and thanksgiving. You are invited to share this invitation with another friend of faith. All are welcome, whether or not you have a congregational home or religious practice. Please click this link to register.

Join the Hills Church Runners this Thanksgiving for the Wellesley Turkey Trot!
|
|
You’ve unloaded pumpkins, raked leaves, baked cookies, taught church school, built houses, and so much more -- but have you ever run in a Turkey Trot? For over five years now the Hills Church Runners have represented the church in the annual Wellesley Turkey Trot. Join us this year on Thanksgiving morning, November 25 – it’s a great way to start the day! This is a 5K fun run held right in Wellesley. The event, which typically features around 2,000 runners, starts at 8:00 am. Everyone runs at their own pace and the timing chip on the race bib will record each runner’s time as they cross the start/finish line. Youth and families are encouraged to join in! Children are welcome (no pets or strollers allowed) and there is a separate Kids Fun Run, less than a mile, for children 10 and under. T-shirt and bib number provided for entry fee ($30, less for children under 18). The course starts and ends at Linden Square in front of Roche Brothers, so there is plenty of free parking. COVID precautions will be observed in consultation with the Wellesley Health Department, and masks can be worn if preferred. Importantly, the event also raises money for local causes: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Children’s Hospital, and the Hannah Randolph Scholarship. Race details and registration here -- be sure to sign up for the team “Hills Church Runners” when you register - https://racewire.com/register.php?id=12474.
Space is limited so you are encouraged to register soon if you are interested. Questions? Contact Doug Eisenhart, douglaseis@comcast.net. We hope to see you there!

Family Ministries at the Hills Church invites you to join us for A SPECIAL Advent Kick-off celebration on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 28th (3:00pm-5:00pm). This special event will be held outdoors and in the Wallace Chapel (windows and doors open). Let us gather around the Advent letters of HOPE and enjoy this event for ALL AGES! The evening will be full of fun activities, including wreath making stations, participating in a service project for those in need, tree lighting (come see our new lights), singing Christmas carols and receiving "at home" Advent and gingerbread house kits!!! You do not need to sign up to participate; however, signing up helps our organizers estimate the number of gingerbread houses we might need! Lay Led Service on Wednesday, December 1
I am pleased to announce that the Lay-Led Services are coming back to the Hills Church. On December 1,2021 we will hold the first of four services. Then in 2022, we will have services on February 2, March 23, and April 27.
Sadly, at least for the December service, covid restrictions prohibit us from offering dinner before the service. Please join us at 7pm in the Wallace Chapel and mark your calendars for the other dates. I will keep you informed as soon as we are again able to enjoy a meal together.
Whether you have been a loyal member of the Lay-Led Service group for fifteen years, or would like to attend for the first time you will receive a warm welcome. I look forward to seeing you in December. ~ Jim McKinney

for Low-Income Families
An Opportunity to Serve Others
|
|
|
For many years members of this congregation have generously shopped for Christmas gifts for low-income families in Waltham that are identified by THOM Charles River Early Intervention clinicians. All the families on our list have at least one child under 3 years old who has developmental challenges due to identified delays or whose development is at risk due to certain birth or environmental circumstances. The need is great…you can help!
For the safety of everyone, sign-ups will be done on SignUpGenius and present drop off will be on specific days and times. You can sign-up to shop for a family (or individuals) using this LINK.
Recipients are grouped by family with gift suggestions for each family member. Families do not expect you to purchase every item on their wish list. Each family has a unique Family Code #.
Presents should be wrapped and labeled with the recipient’s name and Family Code #. All the presents for the same family should be placed in a large plastic bag that is tied shut and securely labeled with the Family Code # and YOUR first name and last initial. If you need a bag there will be some in a bin inside the West Entrance door (by the choir room).
Presents are due by Sunday, December 5th. We will have scheduled days and times to bring your gifts to the church for curbside drop-off. More details with the times, dates, and location for these drop off windows will follow.
Can’t shop? We will gladly accept donations made by check (put EI Christmas Gifts on the memo line). Donations will be used to buy Gift Cards for families to purchase food, diapers and other necessities as the need arises.
