“A Faith that is Shared”

The life of faith, of following Jesus, is a shared life. It is a life bounded by community – and, not a static community, but one with open boundaries that grows and changes.

As we hear the story of Jesus and the disciples feeding the 5,000, we are reminded of the spiritual power of sharing. It was the first lesson we learned in kindergarten, and it is the lesson we need now.

Come and hear Gene Wolfgang sing, and Rodger Jenkins play, “Here I am, Lord.” Come and sing your hearts out, as we worship with joy this Sunday!

Joining us Virtually?

If you are joining us online, download the Virtual Bulletin using the link and participate with us.

We also ask that you share any prayer requests or needs in the Live Chat during Worship. Your feedback is very important as we strive to ensure your virtual worship experience is meaningful and filled with the love of God.

A huge thank you to Dorothy Bays and her team for hosting a successful "Drag Yourself to Church for Bingo" on Saturday, July 29th.

We had over 175 people in attendance. If you missed the fun, here is a video with some memories of the night.

We even had the chance to meet Rev. Rick's cousin, Lesli Parsons.

Ways to Engage and Connect with SunCoast MCC

 and the Community

We need help tomorrow, Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 9:00 AM to put the hurricane shutters on the windows of our Church building - both the Sanctuary and the Administrative wing. These are clear shutters that let in light and won’t interfere with safe occupancy. This will save a lot of time in the case of a declared emergency. If you can help, please bring a pair of pliers with you. We’ll show everyone what to do.

In case of an actual hurricane emergency, we’ll still have to attach shutters to the 5 entrance-doors. We would only do this if a hurricane was a potential impact, because once those final door shutters are up, the building can’t be occupied because they block the fire / emergency exits.

Let Sam Sinnett or Kim Rabon-Noyce know if you’ll be able to help us. Thanks!

Crafting Time with Loran!

Join Lorna on Wednesday August 9th and 23rd for fun, a few laughs, fellowship and crafting. No experience needed...just a desire to learn and be with friends.

To ensure we have enough supplies, please email the Church office or use the form in the lobby to signup for one or both of these classes.

Calling all online worshippers!

Part of our strategic plan is to enhance our online presence and bring people together! Join us for a time of connection and getting to know each other a little better!

There is no agenda for this meeting other than to connect our online community with each other!

Social Justice Book Club

August Meeting

In August the book club will be doing something a little different.

We are asking everyone who cares to participate to read something off of any banned book list (you can find a list on Amazon; or you can type “banned book list” into google). You might even consider a children’s book or a classic. On Monday, Aug. 21 at 7:00pm we will share via zoom why our chosen books might have been banned and discuss the current issues around banned books. Please consider joining this great group.

Join Rev. Rick for three separate Reader’s Theater sessions on August 23, 30 & September 6 at 4PM at church in person only!

For those not familiar with Reader’s Theater it is the experience of reading a play script out loud using only the spoken lines — nothing else. The beauty of its simplicity is that it doesn’t require memorized lines, costumes, sets, or polished acting, but it nevertheless invites participants to step inside the text — to inhabit it through their roles — and to experience the text more fully because they are involved in it themselves. These scripts invite you to revisit those middle school days as you use Reader’s Theater to capture the drama and surprise of these biblical texts.

Each session will be a separate story…attend all three, one or two! In order to have materials ready, we’d like an idea of how many scripts to prepare. Please sign the sheet in the foyer to sign up for the weeks you will attend!

“People get ready.

There’s a train a comin’.

You don’t need no baggage.

You just get on board.”

If you are a Rod Stewart fan, you know that those are the opening words to the Curtis Mayfield hit, “People Get Ready.” It’s time to get ready and get on board the music train because it’s rolling in to Suncoast station.

Our music ministry kicks off on Wednesday, August 23rd with drumming at 6:00 followed by choir at 6:30. If you like Rod Stewart, this opportunity is for you (Just ask Rod!). And if you like to laugh and have fun, this is REALLY for you.

If you’d rather eat first and make music later, please join us for our music ministry COOK-OUT! on Wednesday, August 30th at the home of Anjanette Daugherty and Jill Sherman.

Feel free to reach out to David Katz at DrDavidKatz@SunCoastMCC.com for more information for either or both of these events!
