Worship Service on
Sunday, February 7 at 10AM
Drawn In:
Living a Creative Life with God
Week 6: Resting
|
We extend a warm welcome to our
SunCoast MCC family and friends.
Special music provided this Sunday by the sign language choir and a member of SunCoast MCC, Park Showalter.
We end the “Drawn in” series with a topic that is grossly overlooked in the creative process: effortlessness and play. Creativity suffers if we constantly labor.
In the story of creation, God rested. And this was very “good” as well! While the story said God was “finished” and then rested, really it was simply a pause to reflect, to observe, and to celebrate. May we also find ways to celebrate along our journey.
Scripture: Genesis 2:1-4 & Exodus 20:8–11

Inclement Weather: If the outdoor service is cancelled due to inclement weather, the recorded Service will be available on the website and YouTube at 3PM on Sunday.

Profiles in perseverance
"You may not know their names. But these courageous Black Americans changed history."
Published February 1, 2021
|
Every Black History Month, we tend to celebrate the same cast of historic figures. They are the civil rights leaders and abolitionists whose faces we see plastered on calendars and postage stamps. They resurface each February when the nation commemorates African Americans who have transformed America.
They deserve all their accolades. But this month we are focusing instead on 28 seminal Black figures – one for each day of February – who don’t often make the history books.
Each transformed America in a profound way. Many don’t fit the conventional definition of a hero. Some were foul-tempered, weighed down by personal demons, and misunderstood by their contemporaries.
One was a mystic, another was a spy who posed as a slave, and another was a brilliant but troubled poet dubbed the “Godfather of Rap.” Few were household names. All of them were pioneers.
It’s time for these American heroes to get their due.

Genesis 2: 1-3,
"Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done."
Let's take a moment to rest and reflect while watching the video link below as we prepare for worship.
