STAYING CONNECTED WITH SUNCOAST June 17, 2022
We share God's love in a spiritual environment offering truth, trust and transformation!

During Worship this Sunday, we will be celebrating and honoring Juneteenth. Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.
The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.
On June 17, 2021, it officially became a federal holiday.

Summer Worship Series:
SunCoast MCC Foundational Scriptures
| |
SunCoast MCC has a long and rich tradition as a “praying” church. Over our history we have “claimed” several scriptures as our own, and they serve as the foundation for what we do and believe. They are, in fact, literally sown within the ground upon which our church is built. As the sanctuary was being built these scriptures were written on rocks, blessed, and placed below the foundation of the chancel where the altar stands. The pictures that decorate the SunCoast MCC lobby also include many of these foundational scriptures.
We need your help! We are looking for a photo of the event in about 2009 or 2010, when Rev. Sherry and members of the church placed the stones (under the chancel that was being built in the new sanctuary) with the Foundational scriptures on them, - if you have a photo of this event, please let us know.

Thank you to Mary and Santa for putting up the flag adorning the hall. The flag is actually a piece of the 1.25-mile-long pride flag that was made to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pride flag in 2003.
World-famous political activist, designer and flag-maker Gilbert Baker (1951-2017) created the Rainbow Flag in 1978.
The entire flag was made by Gilbert and his team and ran the entire length of Duval Street from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.
The flag was a gift from Lay Leaders and Board at FirstCoast MCC before they closed.

Give OUT Day
An Opportunity to
Support ALSO Youth
Give OUT Day is a month-long fundraising campaign culminating on June 30, the only national day of giving for the LGBTQ+ community. Last year Give OUT Day raised over $1.9 million for LGBTQ+ nonprofits! Give OUT Day is hosted by Horizons Foundation, the world's first LGBTQ+ community foundation.
Give OUT Day 2022 takes place during Pride Month. While Give OUT Day itself is Thursday, June 30, donors can give any time starting June 1. Donations throughout all of Pride Month count toward the prizes for nonprofits!
Why Support ALSO Youth During Pride Month?
ALSO Youth needs your support now more than ever. In recent months, there have been countless attempts to disenfranchise our youth and the LGBTQ+ population in Florida at large.
The services we offer are designed to promote affirming and engaging experiences for ages 10-24 in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. With your support, we can continue offering monthly programming, free counseling, various support groups, and so much more.
To learn more about ALSO Youth and the services offered, visit our website here. You can donate using the following link: Give OUT LInk
