This is the last Sunday in the Church year – did you know that followers of Jesus follow a different calendar than the “normal” one?
The last Sunday of the year is focused on Jesus, and just what kind of “King” he was... certainly, no ordinary Sovereign... In our scripture, from Luke 23, a thief makes a dying request of a dying Savior. We will look at that powerful story through the lens of SunCoast MCC’s vision of Truth, Trust and Transformation. Are we ready to be transformed? Are we ready to face Advent with hope and commitment?
We will also honor our Transgender siblings at this service, as we pray and act for justice for our whole community.

Transgender Awareness Week and Day of Remembrance
|
|
"Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people -- sometimes in the most brutal ways possible -- it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice."
- Transgender Day of Remembrance founder

This Advent season we have several ways for you to support our community partners. We are working with CHAPS and Glendale Elementary School to support those in need.
Below are ways you can get involved beginning November 28th
|
|
We are collecting $10 Walmart gift cards for CHAPS (Charlotte HIV/Aids People Support, Incorporated). It is a nonprofit that serves to provide food and hygiene items without cost to those persons in need who are living with HIV/AIDS and their dependents. Please bring the gift cards to the Church between November 28 - December 13, and place them in the CHAPS stocking on the fireplace.
You can also support CHAPS by picking up a bag from the lobby and participating in the Reverse Advent Calendar. Use the link below to learn more about this project.
|
|
We are working with Glendale Elementary School in South Sarasota County. Glendale is a Title 1 school and has many families in need.
SunCoast MCC is partnering with the school to provide clothing and toys to five children. On November 28th, please consider taking an Angel from the tree in the lobby and help make some Christmas wishes come true. Each angel has specific details for gift ideas.
Please return the items by December 9th so we can deliver them to the the school.

New SunCoast MCC Protocols for Onsite Worship
|
|
The Board of Directors regularly revisits the safety protocols in relation to COVID-19. We continue to monitor the local statistics and will make changes when possible.
While we are optimistic, we also want to remain cautious and phase in looser restrictions.
For now we will continue
- wearing masks
- using individual communion cups
AND, beginning soon, we will:
- enjoy more congregational singing during worship (with masks)
-
hold social time with refreshments outside starting Nov. 21st
- start Choir and drumming practices for fully vaccinated individuals on Dec. 8th; Both groups will be performing in worship (beginning on Dec. 19th)
The board will continue to watch the trends and, as long as they move in the right direction, will lessen restrictions along the way.
The board wishes to thank all of you for your patience and cooperation in our approach to use caution.
