Homecoming Weekend Honoring
Rev. Dr. Nancy Wilson's
50 Years of Service with MCC!
As we celebrate Rev. Nancy’s 50th Anniversary
in ministry, our special guest, State Rep. Michele Rayner-Goolsby will preach on Rev. Nancy’s favorite homecoming story, the Prodigal Son. Marsha Pino-Stevens
will also share her gifts in song.
| |
Michele Rayner-Goolsby was raised by a family of changemakers in Pinellas County. Her parents both integrated the University of South Florida in the early1960’s and established themselves as community leaders to set an example for Michele with their dedication to service and to the people.
They taught Michele to work hard and never give up on her dreams. And that’s exactly what she’s done. She worked her way through college and fought her way through adversity in law school when others didn’t think she could make it.
Michele then joined the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s office, and was soon called to ensure justice again when she became an attorney for Markeis McGlockton’s family, working alongside civil rights attorney Ben Crump. Markeis was shot and killed in an altercation in a Clearwater parking lot, reigniting the debate over Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” law six years after the death of Trayvon Martin. The experience made it clear to Michele that running for the legislature could help her do more to fight unjust laws like Stand Your Ground and prevent future tragedies from occurring.
Upon Michele's historic election to the Florida Legislature in 2020, she became the first out, Black, Queer woman to ever hold public office in the state of Florida. Along with representing her community in the state legislature, Michele and her wife are both small business owners. She knows first hand how important it is to champion and work for solutions that actually work for people and businesses right in our community.
Michele has always spoken truth to power as a public defender, civil rights attorney, and in the state legislature. She stands up to those when they are wrong and try to bully us into submission. And yet she’s found common ground with others on workforce issues, nurses, food security and environmental issues. Michele is about getting actual results for people that make a difference in their lives.
Growing up, Michele’s father always told her: “Help others, do the right thing and most of all, always keep your head up high.” To this day, Michele keeps her head up and continues to do so working for her constituents, ensuring an equitable recovery from COVID-19, protecting voting rights, fighting for reproductive freedom, and demanding real justice for our underserved communities.

MCC is partnering with Rev. Elder Dr. Nancy Wilson to celebrate her incredible 50 years of ministry in MCC, and she is NOT DONE YET! Nancy continues to be passionate both about local church ministry and MCC’s worldwide mission. To mark this ministry milestone, we are working together to raise at least US$50,000, which will be shared between SunCoast MCC where Nancy is Senior Pastor, and global MCC. The denomination will use the funds to support translation, so that MCC can reach even more people around the world.
In lieu of gifts, donations in honor of Rev. Nancy's work may be made using the link below, visiting SunCoast MCC's website or mailing a check to SunCoast MCC (50/50 in the memo).
