Loving Note from

Rev. Vickie Miller

This month, Pride is celebrated world-wide. This year we commemorate Stonewall's 51st year!
In different cities, Pride is held at various times of the year. SunCoast MCC has been blessed and proud to be the founders, hosts and volunteer force that has offered our community two successful, engaging, Venice Pride events in 2018 and 2019.
|
Now, with COVID-19 hosting a festival this year is less certain. We have determined that trying to plan and execute an outdoor Venice Pride Festival in November 2020, as we have done for the past two years is not practical, with all the uncertainties. We decided to postpone holding a festival until the first quarter of 2021 as we continue to evaluate how things progress in combating the virus. Meanwhile, we are exploring several options for an online Venice Pride that could be hosted this fall along with others in the wider community.
|
But, right now, it is June, the traditional month for LGBT Pride! So, let’s not be shy, let’s not take a back seat. Let’s be visible and inclusive in wearing our colors, all our pride colors. It is time to hope and celebrate the progress we have made. We will press on globally.
Our victories cannot be destroyed by any setbacks we have now or by any virus.

Beguiled by Beauty:
We Are Made for the Beloved
As we warm to the idea that God the Creator is “beguiled by beauty,” we accept that to be connected to God is to embrace that as part of Creation, we are God’s “Beloveds.” All around us we see life’s “yearning for itself,” and are called to act with justice. As siblings of a God of radical love and inclusion, can we be “chips off the old block?” The author of Colossians suggests that the heart of acting as beloveds of God is to practice forgiveness – perhaps one of the greatest challenges we ever face as individuals, and as a church family.
Scriptures: Psalm 16: 7-11; Colossians 3: 12-15

"Press on to the Goal"

“Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on towards the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3: 1
DESPITE interruptions from COVID-19, we are thrilled to report that efforts to refinance our mortgage are well underway!
Forty-seven (47) generous members and friends have already pledged and given over $70,000 towards that effort. As the old spiritual says, “Lord, I want to be in that number!” HELP US GET IT DONE for the future of our Beloved SunCoast MCC. If you have not yet
participated, now is the time. Let’s spend less on a mortgage, and more on ministry!
