STAYING CONNECTED WITH SUNCOAST MCC, NOVEMBER 27, 2020
A welcoming, diverse and active community. We share God's love in a spiritual environment offering truth, trust and transformation.

|
Message from our Pastors
We hope you are all having a relaxing, enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend, and we hope to see you online on Sunday at 10 am!
In this very different holiday season, of having to practice “social/physical distancing,” we also can practice “staying close”
Stay close to the heart of God through prayer, worship, and study.
Stay close to those you love, even if that means virtually, or by phone or email.
Stay close to your community, giving and receiving as you are willing and able.
Be encouraged in this season to open your hearts to love and hope!

“Angels Among Us: Speaking Hope into World!”
Sunday – November 29 – 10AM
First Sunday in Advent
This Sunday we begin the season of Advent – where one candle breaks through the darkness on our Advent Wreath.
Our theme this year is “Angels Among Us,” as we hear first the story of Zechariah, visited by Gabriel, a winged messenger of God. The angel says, “Don’t be afraid!” to Zechariah and Elizabeth as the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and a new age dawns.
Are we ready this week to speak hope to our world, our country, our community, our church and our families? For a new age to dawn in us?
Scripture: Luke 1: 5-25; 57-80

Board of Directors Update
|
Message from the Board of Directors
We would like to thank those who were able to join us for the Annual Forum and Meeting. It was heartwarming to see you and have some time to catchup and socialize virtually.
During the meeting, the Pastors, Board and Clerk all presented reports on the many activities they and the church have engaged in during 2020. It is amazing to highlight all that we have achieved as a church during these uncertain times. Your support and dedication are evident in all that we have accomplished.
Linda Staib’s term continues for another year. The following people were re-elected to the board for an additional term: Kathy Hanas, Beth Ryan, and Mary Convy. We also want to welcome Scott Swonger as the newest member of the Board.
Kathy presented Jack Hutter with a certificate of appreciation for serving on the board and for all his dedication to our church and community. As a church, we have completed a successful capital campaign resulting in us paying down the mortgage, we have explored creative ways to engage with each other via Zoom game nights, Bible studies, choirs, virtual membership classes and many other events virtually. We celebrated our homecoming and were entertained with some magic and jokes!
As a congregation and community, you have continued to support the church with your financial gifts. During the meeting you approved the budget for the 2021 year thus showing your continued dedication to SunCoast MCC.
If you were unable to attend, we missed seeing you. You can review the documents that were discussed in the Member’s Section on the website.

We are pleased to report that we have completed our mortgage refinance process. It was a long process, made even longer due to the pandemic and unforeseen delays with the bank; however, the Board of Directors signed the mortgage refinance papers on Friday, November 13. We are especially grateful to those who contributed to the Capital Campaign – it is due to your faithfulness that our monthly mortgage commitment has been decreased by approximately 15%.

Do Not Be Afraid:
Defeating Fear with Hope, Peace, Love, Joy and a
Wholehearted Life”
Tuesdays, Dec. 1 – Dec. 22
at 7PM
The angel appearances in the Gospel Christmas stories have a consistent theme: “Do Not Be Afraid.” Through these four weeks of Advent, we will journey with Dr. Brené Brown, who is a social worker, researcher, and best-selling author. Dr. Brown’s work on vulnerability speaks to how we let fear–in many forms–affect our lives. Brené calls on us to live more fully into hope, peace, joy, and love through practicing vulnerability.
Classes will include scripture study, video presentations and discussion, facilitated by Rev. Nancy, Rev. Vickie and Cindy D.
