“Beguiled by Beauty: Compassion and Justice
”
|
|
This Sunday, as we conclude our summer series, Rev. Nancy has invited a friend of hers, Ravi Verma, a Hindu-Christian who is a spiritual director, to offer a short reflection on the connection between spirituality and activism.
Rev. Nancy will then focus on how embracing the beauty of creation, of all of life, inevitably leads us to ask questions like, “How can I help?” “How can I relieve suffering?” “How can I be part of the solution instead of being part of the problem?” How can we, as SunCoast MCC, have “beautiful feet” (Isaiah 52: 7-10)?

Loving Note from Rev. Nancy and Rev. Vickie,

SunCoast Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) in Venice, FL stands in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters in denouncing the vandalism against two Sarasota Jewish Communities. Early Wednesday morning, July 15, Temple Emanu-El and Temple Sinai were defaced with spray-painted swastikas and graphic anti-Semitic language.
We realize that whatever religious group is targeted, religious motivated violence affects all of us. Religious freedom is a core value in America. When religious freedom is targeted, we all hurt. All religions are subject to discrimination. And,such violence strikes at the heart of community life, making people afraid to exercise their beliefs, to raise their children, to attend services and gatherings. We count on our Houses of Worship expecting to be safe, but we have become vulnerable to hatred because of who we are or what we believe.
We commit ourselves to solidarity for justice as we continue striving for truth, trust, and transformation.

Please take this short survey today.
We are looking for ways to engage our church members and friends during these challenging times and into the future. We have been offering events such as Bible studies, Drive-by blessings, Drum circles, discussion on racism, Trivia and Bingo nights, prayer surges and virtual church social hours. Some upcoming events include Christmas in July and a Sign Language class. Please take a minute to help us find new and other meaningful ways to stay connected during these times when we cannot meet in person.
Your feedback is appreciated.

Bible Study Series:
"Half-Truths"
|
Tuesdays at 4:30PM
July 21 through August 11

They are simple phrases. They sound Christian—like something you might find in the Bible. We’ve all heard or said these words. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways.
- Everything happens for a reason.
- God helps those who help themselves.
- God won’t give you more than you can handle.
- God said it, I believe it, that settles it.
- Love the sinner, hate the sin.
Join the Pastors to explore and unpack these “half truth” phrases.

Church of the Trinty MCC and SunCoast MCC
Host a Drumming Service
|
Wednesday, July 22 at 7PM
|
Suncoast MCC has been invited to participate in a drumming service of healing on the campus of Church of the Trinity MCC. If you’ve had the opportunity to attend one of our drumming circles over the past couple of weeks, you know what a joyful time we’ve had creating rhythms under the vast sky on our beautiful Suncoast MCC campus.
This is an interactive service where you will be invited to drum along or, if you prefer listen and watch the experience. Safety protocols such as mask wearing and social distancing will be in effect. If you are interested in participating in the service, please email Dr. David Katz, our Music Director at
drdavidkatz@suncoastmcc.com
to let him know you will need a drum.

This promises to be a wonderful time of great fun, fellowship and an opportunity to see friendly/familiar faces. Since we all miss being together and seeing one another on Sunday and in the various activities in the life of our church and community, this is a fantastic way to say hi and connect!
- Dig out your favorite ugly Christmas shirt/sweater.
- Dig through your holiday recipes and be ready to talk about your favorite holiday treat. Find a special ornament or decoration. You can share about it too.
- We will have three prizes: 1st place $50 gift card, 2nd place $25 gift card and 3rd place $10 gift card.
- Be ready to email us your recipes so we can create a memory document of everyone’s favorite holiday.
Christmas is a wonderful time of birth and reflection. Even during these uncertain and uncharted times, we are thankful for what we have, especially our SunCoast MCC family and friends. Join as we spread some Christmas cheer.
