Blessing of the Animals

The Blessing of the Animals service is not only a time to celebrate the beloved animals in your life, but also to see how it might be done in your church for church members, their pets and your community as a creative way of reaching out.

World Animal Day is celebrated each year on October 4. On this day, animal life in all its forms is celebrated, and special events are planned in locations all over the globe. October 4 was originally chosen for World Animal Day because it is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and patron saint of animals and the environment. Numerous churches throughout the world observe October 4 (or a Sunday close to it) with a Blessing of the Animals service.

Validated Ministries

Cathedral Arts Project

As of September 12th, the Cathedral Arts Project (CAP) has acquired Connecting Thru Music (CTM), a remarkable nonprofit focused on providing music therapy for children and young adults with special needs.

The decision to unite with CTM stems from a shared ethos: the belief that every child's creative spirit deserves to be nurtured. This acquisition empowers CAP to integrate CTM’s music therapy services into our existing CAPabilities program. This alignment not only broadens the scope of services we offer but also amplifies our efforts to increase access and equity in arts education for students with special needs in Northeast Florida.

By-the-Numbers Insights:

  • There are 18,565 students with special needs, not counting those who only have speech impairment or are gifted, enrolled in public schools in Duval County alone.
  • CTM currently reaches 276 students during the school year and 415 students during the summer.

CTM's evidence-based approach to music therapy aligns seamlessly with CAP's commitment to high-quality, impact-driven arts education. In her new role as Director of Music Therapy Expansion at CAP, Karen Demuth, Co-Founder and Executive Director of CTM, will continue to champion the transformative power of music therapy.

This acquisition opens up unprecedented opportunities for CAP to reach more children than ever before. By bringing Connecting Thru Music under the CAP umbrella, they are strategically positioning themselves to reach an even larger community of children who are in need of music therapy.
