The Importance of Prescribed Fire

Prescribed fire is a crucial tool for forest management. The benefits include reducing wildfire risk, restoring forest health, and increasing forest resiliency in the Tahoe Basin.

Unlike wildfires, prescribed fires are carefully planned and intentionally set by professionals. Prescribed fires help to reduce fuels in the basin, decreasing the risk and intensity of wildfires that are dangerous and costly to communities.

This project was funded due to the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, which authorized the sale of BLM administered federal lands within a designated boundary in the Las Vegas Valley and required proceeds to be used on projects to fund federal, state and local projects that benefit communities and public lands.
