Dear Families,

I want to take a moment to thank you for everything you are doing. Governor DeWine's directive to shelter in place and practice social distancing has created challenges for all of us in our work, our education, and our mental and emotional health. What you are doing is making a positive difference. Ohio is leading the nation with respect to flattening the curve and your contribution has helped Ohio become the state to emulate.

If you are feeling like you can't do this much longer, you are normal. We have definitely been pushed beyond our comfort zone but we CAN do this!  We WILL do this!

As we approach a long weekend, you may have considered getting together with extended family, just this one time. It's important that we don't waiver now. Humor has always been important to me and it is even more so now. An animator in Ohio created this parody of the Laverne and Shirley opening theme song, featuring Governor Mike DeWine and Dr. Amy Acton. I hope this puts a smile on your face as it did mine.

Laughter and music are good for the soul. Plan some time with those in your household to be creative, be silly and laugh.  Listen to music, dance, sing and enjoy these moments with loved ones. For those of you who like games, our family enjoys Apples to Apples. It encourages creativity and makes you think about how others will perceive your answer. For the young it encourages vocabulary building and the game naturally creates laughter. For those with younger ones in your home, you may consider Apples to Apples Junior.    Here is a link describing five (5) ways it encourages language skills. There will be a day that you look back upon some of these moments with great fondness.

Best Regards,
