From the Principal
Dear Steele families,

We hope you've enjoyed your extended break as much as possible under these strange conditions. We are excited to begin remote remotelearninglearning on Tuesday, April 7. Teachers will send you a communication of what to expect during remote learning by Monday April 6. While it will vary by grade level, much of the work will be self directed through Google Classroom or other apps.

Our classroom teachers have been planning along with our support staff and 2nd educators to ensure your child has the best experience possible.  If your child sees more than one teacher, you should expect communication from them in addition to your child's homeroom teachers.

As a staff, we are all starting in different places with remote learning.  All of our teachers are working tirelessly to learn new skills for delivering an entirely new type of learning to our students. We are allowing staff the flexibility to try new things and to feel okay living in the uncomfortable space of the learning curve. This is what we teach our kids each day! Please join me in applauding them for the incredible work they are doing to ensure we are ready to launch remote learning next week.  They are amazing!

In addition to remote learning, we have some other changes happening at Steele. Please read this letter  about a change to the 4/5 multiage model for next year. Families who currently have students in 4/5 classrooms were recently notified of this change. We will be holding a virtual community meeting on 4/7 to answer any questions about the change and to discuss next steps. If you would like to attend you can find the information on how to connect in the letter.

Thanks for your support and encouragement.  Please let me know if you need anything, we are in this together. We look forward to re-engaging with students and families on April 7th!

Stay healthy!

Hi Steele Community,

We wanted to give you an update on what will be happening for the rest of the year regarding PTA. (If/When school resumes, this may be modified.)

PTA Board Elections: Elections will be taking place the last week of April. Since we will not be back to school, our plan is to do a Survey Monkey with all interested candidates. If you have any interest in taking over a board position please let us know by April 12th. Any and all questions about the board positions can be sent to [email protected]. Only paid PTA members are eligible to vote. The election Survey Monkey will be posted in an upcoming Steele Stallion/Steele Extra. You can pay your membership dues on the Membership Toolkit website.

Home Tour 2020--Home Tour Cancellation:  The committee was not feeling ok about having so many (or any) people go through the sponsor homes with the virus just getting started in the U.S..  Knowing ALL that is involved, postponing the Home Tour wasn't an option. We decided to officially cancel the Home Tour for 2020.  Countless hours have already been spent in planning for this event. We want to give a huge shout out to Jen Olsen, Carrie Gibson, and the entire Home Tour committee for all of their time, effort, and passion they dedicated to this neighborhood tradition.

Steele PTA Finances: Our Steele community does an amazing job raising money! We have roughly $335,000 in our accounts now.  This more than covers our "normal" budget for next year and keeps $40,000 in our reserve account for future disasters. This school year we budgeted $206,000.  When we first called off the Home Tour, we were thinking we would have a "Stallion Fund" push to our community by asking parents to write a check.  However, we are well aware of the hardships we have going on outside our doors with job and income losses. Our school is fortunate to not need any additional funds, and we would like to recommend that families NOT donate any money to the PTA.

Best,
Kim & Crissy
