Dear Steele Families,
We love having students back on the playground in the mornings! It’s so great that they have the opportunity to play with their friends and get some wiggles out before the start of the day. The weather is finally cooler and although we are enjoying our current fall temperatures we are also planning ahead for wintry weather mornings. While our goal is to keep kids outside as much as possible, we also want to make sure our students are safe and comfortable. If it is too cold to play outside we will have students head to their classrooms in the mornings starting at 7:50.
Students will head inside if it’s:
- 25 degrees or below or it feels like it is
- Icy
- Raining
- Snowing (wet snow, not the soft fluffy kind)
- Snow covered
Please make sure you are sending your kids dressed for the weather. Even if we’re inside in the morning we will always try to be outside for lunch recess.

Have a great weekend!

Masks:
As a reminder, masks are required in all DPS schools for both employees and students, regardless of vaccination status. Please remind your students to wear their masks and keep them up over their noses throughout the day. Our specials team and many 2nd educators see all students at Steele and are therefore exposed to every COVID case we report. We want to ensure that our staff and students feel safe at school and masks are a big part of that this year. We appreciate your support!

Transportation During Inclement Weather:
With snow and ice on the way, we want to keep the DPS community informed on current transportation conditions. We are still experiencing a significant driver shortage, despite our increased hiring efforts with signing bonuses. Historically, bad weather days lead to an additional drop in driver attendance -- so to be prepared, we will stagger transportation based on our resources in order to get students to school safely. What does this mean for you? When there is inclement weather, please expect some routes to be 45-60 minutes late. We will notify you about delayed service as early as possible. If you have any questions, email [email protected] or call
720-423-4600.

Steele Sponsorship:
Does your family own their own business? Do you have any relationships with local businesses that would love to support Steele? If so, please consider being a Steele business sponsor! Last year, we raised $30,000 from generous Steele family owned and local businesses! Our proximity to Alameda allows for advertisements to be seen by over 30,000 drivers a day!
