Dear Steele Families,
As you know, the DPS mask mandate ends this week. Starting Monday, February 28th, masks will be optional for students, staff, and volunteers while indoors. In addition to the change in mask requirements, there are a few more changes you should be aware of. All of these changes are for the entire district, not just Steele.
- Steele will continue to report all confirmed cases of COVID, however, students and staff will no longer be required to quarantine if they are in close contact to COVID regardless of vaccination status. This means we will not be contacting families in the event of a close contact. As of next week, we will discontinue the class emails to notify families of a positive COVID case.
-
Vaccine cards are no longer required for individuals who volunteer at Steele. We still require the DPS Volunteer Background Check for all volunteers.
- Indoor events may resume! We are excited to start planning indoor events for students and families. There are no longer any restrictions about events.
- Students may choose their own seats during lunch and will have no restrictions around who they work with during the day.
We know this is a big change! We’ve gotten used to functioning in a COVID world and it feels strange to release the COVID restrictions and head back to normal. Please know that we will do our best to accommodate families’ wishes around masking. We will not tolerate any teasing about whether or not a student chooses to wear a mask. We want all of our students and staff to feel safe and supported throughout this change. As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
Caught in the Act winners will return next week.

Have a great weekend!

We are proud to announce that we can hold the Science Fair again this Spring. Start brainstorming with your budding scientists all those little things you wondered about during your time spent at home. Flyers with details regarding information sessions and deadlines will be sent home with the kids next week. Note that the project timeline will be fast tracked due to the compressed schedule this year.
Science Fair volunteers needed! We would welcome anyone who is willing to help plan logistics of the event! We are looking for 2 adults to make classroom visits on Friday, March 4th, to spread the word about the Science
Fair, we need judges and runners the day of the fair and anyone else willing to pitch in. Please mark your calendars for a very fun and rewarding event! Email [email protected] with questions or to sign up to volunteer.
