Dear Steele Families,
The month of April brings with it a lot (really, A LOT) of testing but at Steele we did not let that get in the way of real, authentic learning experiences for our students. All of our teachers have worked hard to make sure that students are engaged in rigorous, meaningful, and fun work each and every day. I am continually grateful that Steele teachers bring their passion and enthusiasm to their teaching, it certainly is contagious! Check out some recent projects we’ve been working on: (Top to bottom - 5th graders interviewing an artist for their Human Rights Project, 5th graders’ Shakespeare Festival dress rehearsal, 4th graders learning about engineering from a real engineer and Steele grandpa!)

Have a great weekend!

Eid Celebration: May 5, 2022
At Steele, diversity is one of our core values. We are always looking for ways to broaden our perspectives and learn more about the world. Many of our students here at Steele celebrate Eid, an Arabic word meaning “celebration/feast that repeats” (comes around each year). Eid-ul-Fitr is the breaking of the fast, marking the end of Ramadan. There are almost two billion Muslims around the world, and they come from many different walks of life and cultures. As a result, the way Eid is celebrated can vary from family to family, community to community, culture to culture, and country to country. However, what unites all people during this time is a shared joy at celebrating this festive day. We will have a schoolwide celebration to celebrate Eid on May 5, 2022 from 2:15-3:00. At this time we will enjoy a musical performance on our school field presented by Swallow Hill Music. Classrooms will also be sharing dates, a traditional treat eaten to break fast during Ramadan and students will all receive small henna tattoos in celebration of this joyous day. Please join us for this celebration!

Science Fair
The Steele Science Fair was a huge success with nearly 100 kids presenting projects! The winners are listed below, but the judges had a tough time narrowing it down and awarded several ties. All the projects were impressive! Please congratulate your child and yourself for pulling it off. The top two from each grade will be presenting at the DPS District Fair on April 30. Wish them luck! Big thank you to the 25 parent volunteers who helped judge and pull kids for their project interviews. We can't do it without you! Please note, the science fair is typically held in January, but was pushed back this year due to Covid. We will communicate next year's date when we know more.
