Rehearsing for Eternity - Matthew 26:17-30

Holy Communion Sunday

Dear Friends,

On Sunday, September 3, worship in the Birmingham First Sanctuary will focus on Matthew 26:17-30.

Here, we see Jesus at his last supper with his disciples in Jerusalem. On this occasion, as the Jewish nation gathered to commemorate its deliverance from Egyptian slavery by the mighty hand of God, Jesus taught his disciples a new understanding of the meaning of the Passover. Instead of commemorating the Passover as an historic event of the past, Jesus introduced a new understanding. From now onward, his disciples would celebrate this occasion as deliverance from bondage to the laws of sin and death. Rather than the blood of the sacrificial lamb, the blood would be Jesus’ blood shed on the cross for deliverance from the wages of our sins.

What does it mean to participate in Holy Communion for you?

Come, let us break bread together on our knees! Come, let us commemorate our own deliverance by the blood of Jesus Christ. Come, let us worship together this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in-person or online by clicking one of the buttons below.

After two-and-a-half weeks in Liberia, I look forward to worshipping with you in Birmingham, Michigan.

Blessings,

The Rev. Dr. Charles S. G. Boayue, Jr.

Senior Pastor
