IMPACT: The Future Plan - Romans 12:1-2

Dear Friends,

Sunday, October 22, is the second week of our Generosity Campaign. Worship in the Birmingham First Sanctuary will focus on Romans 12:1-2. The Sermon title is “Impact: The Future Plan” and examines the relationship between the Apostle Paul’s appeal to the church in Rome and our congregation’s plan for 2024.

Paul’s appeal for transformation of the mind is an attempt to focus the attention of Christians on an inner grounding of spiritual maturity. For people whose values and priorities are grounded in secular culture and its temporal benefits, the idea of transformation of the mind is revolutionary because it calls for a paradigm shift in values, priorities, and behaviors. One cannot follow Jesus faithfully without abandoning loyalty to the world. One cannot serve two masters at the same time. Those who seek to do this will always have to choose. And the Apostle Paul recommends that those who follow Jesus allow themselves to focus on the priorities of Christian discipleship. This focus is sustainable when it is rooted in the mind or in the human heart. “Mind” and “heart” represent the foundation of our moral, ethical, and spiritual being. When we are transformed from within, our actions and reactions will follow.

Please invite your family, friends, and neighbors to worship with you this Sunday at  9:30 a.m. in-person or online, and at 11:00 a.m. in-person. Sunday School and Nursery Care are available at 9:30 a.m. Nursery Care is available at 11:00 a.m.

I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

The Rev. Dr. Charles S. G. Boayue, Jr.

Senior Pastor

IMPACT: Discernment

Romans 12:1-2

In this season of IMPACT, our focus shifts toward discernment: What is God inviting me to do in this season? Who is God calling me to become?

While the will of God in every single situation may not be abundantly clear, we can put practices in place to discern what is good, pleasing, and perfect. Worship with Berkley First this Sunday to discover what God may have in store for you. After the service, consider putting your faith into action by assembling lunches for the NOAH Project in the Berkley First Social Hall.

Rummage Sale - THANK YOU

The United Women in Faith of Birmingham and Berkley First want to thank everyone who donated, volunteered, and shopped at the Fall Rummage Sale for Missions. Over 700 volunteers logged thousands of hours. Shoppers filled the church, excited to find great items at reasonable prices. Charities took loads of items (clothing, dishes, linen, and furniture) to help others. Thanks to the Church and Society committee for staffing the recycling area and to the Church Staff for your flexibility during a challenging work week that brought JOY to SO many! Together we created the Mission Field within the walls of the church, raising money to help others. Sale proceeds will allow United Women in Faith to continue funding mission projects benefiting women and children locally, nationally, and internationally.
