IMPACT - Romans 12:1-2

Friends,

On Sunday, October 8, we highlight the scripture Romans 12:1-2 while introducing our upcoming Generosity Campaign with the sermon titled, “IMPACT.” The campaign will run from Sunday, October 15 through Sunday, October 29.

The Apostle Paul writes to the Church in Rome, as he is much aware of Roman culture, history, traditions, influence, and worldview. Despite being at the center of world power, influence, and domination, the Roman people, in general, and the Roman Church, in particular, hungered for purpose, meaning, direction, fulfillment, and peace. However, fidelity to their secular lives and the privileges it provided kept the Church from offering an authentic witness to the redemptive work of God. Hence, Paul directs them to find true peace and fulfillment – something people in our time seek diligently.

We have wonderful blessings planned for Sunday, with a special prayer for our upcoming Rummage Sale and it’s volunteers. Then after worship we will be dedicating the Pettibone Plaza and Kinetic Art. You can read more about this dedication below.

I invite you to share in this special experience of worship with us at 9:30 a.m. in-person or online, and at 11:00 a.m. in-person. Sunday School and Nursery Care are available at 9:30 a.m. Nursery Care is available at 11:00 a.m.

I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

The Rev. Dr. Charles S. G. Boayue, Jr.

Senior Pastor

Promises of God: Life

John 3:16, John 10:10

The Christian walk is often described as a relationship rather than a religion, a way of life rather than rote recitation. As people of resurrection, God invites us to experience life abundantly! This Sunday, Pastor Zack wraps up our series on the Promises of God by exploring the promise of life - life to the full here and now, and life eternal hereafter.

Dedication of Pettibone Plaza & Kinetic Art

Join us on Sunday, October 8, at 10:30 a.m. (between worship services) as we dedicate to the glory of God Pettibone Plaza, in memory of Bill Pettibone Jr., and the Kinetic Art piece in memory of Rev. Barbara Lewis -Lakin.

Bill Pettibone Jr. managed the constructing of the Christian Life Center in 2003. In addition, he and his wife, Jane, have been active in many ministries and mission projects in their more than 50 years as members of Birmingham First. Pettibone Plaza is part of our prayer walk, A Quiet Way, and is located at the southeast end of the Christian Life Center facing the parking lot.

Rev. Barbara Lewis-Lakin was an ordained elder in the Michigan Conference and a pastoral psychotherapist with Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Michigan. In retirement she attended Birmingham First and was a blessing to many. The kinetic art is given in Barbara's memory by her friends in the Spot O' Tea book club. Barbara is the late spouse of Rev. Shawn Lewis-Lakin.
