NOVEMBER 2017
Steinbrenner High School / 5575 Lutz Lake Fern Road / Lutz, FL 33558
Volume 5, Issue 3
Principal: Kelly King / PTSA President: Erica Dees / Editor: Lisa Pierce
Dear Steinbrenner Students, Families, and Teachers,
Senior parents and students,  I hope you've managed to stay on top of all of the college and scholarship applications that tend to be the focus at this time of year.  Don't forget to order a banner for your senior if you haven't already done so and check our website for the PTSA scholarship application. The scholarship deadline is February 1, 2018.
As a reminder, there are many important activities that our PTSA works on at Steinbrenner. We support the school by providing hospitality for the staff on teacher conference nights and awarding grants to the teachers, among other efforts which could not happen without the hard work of our board members and volunteers.
More than fundraising, is the participation of parents in supporting the school and we appreciate your continued interest and support in all we do.
As Thanksgiving approaches purchase a gift card to send a meal to someone you love, use it for your holiday ham or turkey, give it as a gift card to a friend or relative, or even as a holiday gift to your child's teacher.  Get holiday shopping done and support the school in the process! Proceeds will go towards our new "Steinbrenner Cares" program.
Have a great Thanksgiving and enjoy the time with family and friends!
"A strong PTSA embodies parent involvement and parent involvement represents student success."
~Erica Dees
Steinbrenner PTSA President, 2017-18

Thank you for your interest in Steinbrenner Cares.  Steinbrenner Cares will work with the school social worker, Ms. Haydel, and administrators to assist students in our school that may need financial support to fully participate in all activities (clubs, sports, supplies, etc.)   The Honey Baked Ham fundraiser currently being advertised will be the primary source of funds to initiate the program.  Our goal is to do at least one project each semester.
The fall project will be to provide a holiday gift bag for 10 students (identified by Ms. Haydel) that will include gift cards (Publix, Target, the Mall, etc.)  We would also like to collect new/gently used Steinbrenner Hoodies or winter coats as the weather cools off.  For the spring project we are looking at a school supply drive.  Specifically we will accumulate new/gently used jansport backpacks and calculators as well as new multi-subject spiral notebooks and binders. A spring drive will enable the supplies to be ready prior to the start of school.
Additionally we would like to encourage all those coordinating club, sports and activities to indicate on their materials that assistance may be available if participation presents a financial hardship.  Our goals include having funds available to assist with specific needs as they arise throughout the year.
What does this mean for you?  We will be advertising a "Giving Tree" via the PTSA newsletter and the PTSA website.  The Giving Tree will encourage donations of gift cards & hoodies for the fall project.  Please spread the word.  At this point there is not a hands on need for volunteers.  If you have an idea for a donation please let me know.
Thank you for Caring!

The scores are in for the Princeton Review Practice ACT Test!  Students who took the ACT Practice Test at Steinbrenner on October 7th should have received a notification from Princeton Review directly via the email they provided on test day.
If your student did not receive the email, or is having trouble signing in to get scores, please call Princeton directly at 800-273-8439, ext. 1038 and ask for Jukie Waxman or Alyssa Louro.
They can also be reached by email: or

Thank you to all who helped make this years' Senior Breakfast a success. All of your donations and time were so very much appreciated.
Over 570 seniors enjoyed Chick Fil A chicken minis, fruit, muffins, cookies and so many other treats. This is such a special tIme for the Seniors as they get to come into school a little later and get something special while receiving packets of information to prep them for graduation.
Without all of you parents stepping up to help set up, serve and provide baked goods and beverages to the students, we would not have been able to do this.
Thank you again Warrior Parents .

Yearbook Memory ads are
for SENIORS only!
Don't forget that ALL ads include a yearbook with purchase, so you do not need to purchase otherwise!
Ads must be complete by 12/31/17!

Senior Banners are available for
purchase! Order yours today!!
With the end of the first semester also comes the next deadline for Senior Banners. Prices for the banners will go up January 8th. The small banners will go up to $40 and the large banners will be $75.
Many questions have been asked about the banners and I thought everyone could benefit from hearing the answers!!
  1. Where will the banners be hanging? The banners are placed in the 200 and 300 halls as well as the cafeteria. Those who placed orders by the end of October will be able to pick what hall their banners will hang in. All orders placed beginning November 1 will randomly hang in the 200 and 300 halls throughout the school.
  2. What message do I have placed on my students' banner? The small banners have room for a salutation and who it's from. For example," Love, Mom & Dad". The large banners can have a favorite quote or saying.
  3. What picture should I use? Any high-resolution picture will work on the banners. You can use a Senior picture or one of your favorite shots from when your child was growing up. Some banners have even had baby pictures.
  4. Can I have more than one picture on a banner? Banners are designed to have one picture.
  5. I want a large banner but I'm not sure what quote I want on it. Can I still place an order? Go ahead and place your order. I will contact you when it's closer to production time of the banner to get the rest of the information.
  6. How do I place an order? Banner orders can be placed online. Go to . You can also print off the order form and turn it in at the front office of the school.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Thank you,
Maura Weins
