Bernard and Norma Shapiro

1958-1962

Louis Kahn

Addition by Kahn and Anne Ting

1972-1975

Norma Shapiro wanted a modern house and at first thought about asking Richard Neutra. But after meeting Louis Kahn and becoming enamored with the Trenton Bath House, the Shapiros enlisted Kahn to design their dream house, says Wiliam Whitaker in his The Houses of Louis Kahn.

"The house is set on a narrow, heavily wooded slope overlooking the picturesque Schuylkill Valley and the Flat Rock dam and falls. With its blank stucco walls facing the street and large windows open to the view, it perfectly satisfied one of the couple's key requirements: to "provide as much 'privacy as possible,'" Whitaker adds.

Join fellow modern enthusiasts to tour this rarely open to the public house. Enjoy some nibbles and a glass of wine and hear more about the story of the Shapiros and the designs of both Kahn and Anne Ting, from our Kahn expert Bill Whitaker.
