Spring Appeal

Step Up & Donate

Dear Friend of UCC PIN,

Now is the moment!

The stones are crying out for us to step up our advocacy for justice and offer hope to those at the forefront of the struggle.

Step Up & Donate

The Challenge

It's A Kairos Moment

Passionate about justice for Palestinians and appreciative of UCC PIN’s witness and work, several members have come together to create a matching pledge. Every dollar you donate to UCC PIN between now and the start of General Synod on June 30 will be doubled, up to $5,000Wow.

We are so grateful for their belief in PIN’s advocacy and their recognition that this is a Kairos moment for Palestinian solidarity.

This spring appeal represents a leap of faith for UCC PIN’s fundraising efforts. We are hoping our many supporters will step up to the challenge by contributing generously.

The Impact

Visibility & Mobilizing

In the immediate term, your contributions will help UCC PIN be visible at the upcoming General Synod 34, in two prominent ways. Both carry significant price tags.

  1. Exhibition Hall Booth under the able leadership of steering committee member Elice Higginbotham; and
  2. Workshop on “Becoming an Apartheid-Free Congregation”, co-sponsored with Global Ministries.

Dov Baum, PhD., Director, American Friends Service Committee’s Economic Activism Program will be the lead presenter at our workshop and will introduce the nationwide initiative, Apartheid-Free Congregations (www.apartheid-free.org). Dov will offer steps and strategies to lead our congregations in the process of becoming apartheid-free churches.

At the UCC PIN Booth, Synod attendees will find literature about the Apartheid-Free Congregations initiative and many other resources for congregational education and engagement --all in response to the 'Cry for Hope' from our Palestinian partners.

As we did in 2019 at Milwaukee, our PIN booth will again offer tasty and apartheid-free treats of hummus and baklava!

Diane Dulin and Faye Buttrick offer hummus and baklava at UCC PIN's booth at the 2019 General Synod, Milwaukee.

The Priorities

Stepping Up Our Solidarity

Your donation will also help UCC PIN to meet our 2023 goals:

●  Continue to promote and implement the action steps named in the 2021 General Synod resolution, Declaration for a Just Peace Between Palestine and Israel.

●  Resource congregations and conferences across the nation to take the pledge and join the Apartheid-Free Congregations initiative.

●  Grow our Solidarity Circles program for congregational leaders by offering a 2nd Circle in the fall of 2023.

●  Increase our social media presence and messaging with guidance from Kelly Cox, UCC PIN’s part-time Social Media consultant.

● Promote advocacy for federal legislation, for example, Rep. Betty McCollum’s soon to be re-introduced bill, Palestinian Children and Families Act, about defending the human rights of Palestinian children and families living under Israeli military occupation.

●  Keep you updated and connected through our monthly newsletters.

●  Continue to listen to our Palestinian and Israeli mission partners and let our work be inspired by their sumud, steadfast faith and perseverance.

Our Origin Story

Bending Towards Justice

by Palestinian artist Sliman Mansour

Sometimes it can be hard to see that the “moral arc of the universe” really does “bend toward justice.” It takes the eyes of faith to recognize the bend and even more so, the advocacy of people of faith to activate and persist in the bending.

UCC PIN’s origin story begins in 2011 when a group of UCC activists started the bending. Gay Harter, Branwen Cook, and John Thomas hatched the plan. Then joined by Maryn Goodson, Diane Dulin, Catherine Alder, and others, and with counsel from Global Ministries' Peter Makari and other Wider Church and Justice and Witness ministries staff, they took the step of forming the United Church of Christ Palestine Israel Network.

The ten-plus years since the launch of UCC PIN have confirmed the fruits of our ‘founders’ vision and initiative. For one example, UCC PIN has been a prime mover in the adoption of three General Synod resolutions, one on BDS in 2015, another on the rights of Palestinian children held in Israeli military, and then in 2021, the Declaration for a Just Peace Between Palestine and Israel that named Israel’s regime as apartheid and its continued oppression of the Palestinian people as a sin.

This most recent resolution helped to catapult the UCC to national and even global prominence in the growing movement to name the reality of Israel’s apartheid practices. The board and staff of Kairos Palestine, for example, received our 2021 resolution as “more than a sign of solidarity. We receive the Synod’s vote,” they wrote in a letter to the Rev. John Dorhauer, “as a bold act of faith and conscience, precedent-setting among denominations in North America.”

As UCC PIN continues to work to “bend the moral arc of the universe towards justice,” through educating, sharing resources, and equipping congregations and conferences to advocate for the human and democratic rights for all between the river and the sea, we welcome your support and encourage you to contribute to our spring appeal.

How to contribute?

Stepping up to the challenge is easy

Just click here or on the donate button below to get the donation page on the UCC PIN website, where you fill find instructions to contribute either online or by check.

Raising $5,000 in less than two months can seem, at first blush, daunting if not unlikely. But think of it this way: typically over 250 individuals open PIN's monthly E-News. If each reader donated $20, we could easily raise $5,000. Is that doable? Yes. Will we do it? Let's step up to the challenge and see.

Deep gratitude to each of you for your passion for justice, peace and equality for all Palestinians and Israelis, for your solidarity, and for your support of UCC PIN's arc bending work!
