Painting of Clams
by Barb Gibson April 2020
Barb has taken watercolor from Kely Knowles, Vera Champlin, Ann Hart and Robert Mesrop. She has been painting two or three times a week during the Stay at Home period. She paints at the dining room table; the light is good and she can easily let Gemma, her dog, out the slider. Friends delivered freshly raked clams one day. They were so beautiful, she was inspired to set up a still life using a bowl purchased at CAC's Sacrifice Art Sale.
The set up!
Palette ready to go.
A simple drawing placing the bowl on the beach. Worked from top to bottom. Sky in first - a simple wash.
Bowl was a challenge. Had to remember to leave light accents. Thanks, Vera!
Next step was to start shaping the shells.
Almost there, Robert Mesrop's voice is ringing in my ears: Value, Value, Value!
Finished piece includes shadow on the right and under the shells. This helps to tie things together.
Lunch! Delish!
