Spring 2026 | Issue 16

HAPPY SPRING!

We’re excited to welcome the season of longer days, warmer weather, and everything blooming around us. In this issue, you'll find an invite to our upcoming pickleball lessons, updates on our first Journal Club, the continued partnership between Berks Ortho and Freedom Therapies (and what that means for your care!), and the success story of student athlete Chesney. You'll also learn more about same-day discharge opportunities.

After you’ve had a chance to read through, we hope you can carve out some time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. And don't forget to register for pickleball - we'll see you on the court!

YOU’RE INVITED!
Free Pickleball Lesson & Tournament

Join us for a free Learn to Play pickleball event at the West Reading Pickleball court. Guests are invited to arrive around 2:45 PM for a 3 PM event start time. We'll start with instruction from the West Reading Pickleball Association team, followed by an optional round-robin style tournament to showcase your new skills! If you'd prefer to skip the tournament, feel free to stick around and play one-on-one or just to watch and mingle. The event will end at 5 PM.

Journal Club

This March, Berks Ortho, in collaboration with Freedom Therapies, hosted their first Journal Club, bringing together local providers for an open, thoughtful discussion centered on evidence, experience, and clinical decision-making. The focus was simple but important: continue learning, share practical insights, and better align how we care for the patients in our community.

These conversations go beyond research alone. They challenge assumptions, highlight real-world application, and create space for providers to learn from one another across disciplines. That alignment is where better outcomes start. Because when providers are aligned, patients win.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to show up, engage, and contribute to a meaningful discussion. This is how we continue to grow, both individually and as a healthcare community.

Providers: Look for more information on our June 23 session, coming soon. Patients: Follow along for updates on patient-focused discussions later this year.

Continuum of Care - Berks Ortho and Freedom Therapies

At Berks Ortho, orthopedic care goes beyond bones and joints. Through our close partnership with Freedom Therapies, patients benefit from specialized orthopedic physical therapy that works hand in hand with their treatment plan. From injury diagnosis to rehabilitation and performance recovery, our teams collaborate every step of the way to support stronger, healthier outcomes.

Along with total joint replacements and fracture care, our team specializes in sports medicine, helping athletes and active individuals recover from injuries and return safely to the activities they love.

From the Sidelines Back to Strength

After years as a competitive soccer, basketball, and track athlete, a recurring shoulder dislocation led student-athlete Chesney to labrum reconstruction surgery and a long recovery journey. Through six months of physical therapy at Freedom Therapies, she regained the strength, stability, and confidence needed to return to the sports she loves. Chesney credits her recovery not only to sport-specific rehab exercises, but also to the encouragement and consistency of her therapist, Matt Sauer, who supported her every step of the way. “Physical therapy became the most important practice I attended,” she shared. “It helped me trust my body again and gave me the mindset to return stronger than before.”

Whether you're a student athlete or just an active individual, we're here if you're in need of assistance. From diagnosis to rehabilitation, we're here to help. Learn more about our team: https://www.berksortho.com/who-we-are

Same Day Discharge

Berks Ortho offers same-day discharge for select hip and knee replacement patients.

Thanks to advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques and a coordinated approach to care, many patients can return home the very same day as their procedure. Recovering at home can offer meaningful benefits, including greater comfort, improved rest, and a reduced risk of hospital-related complications. With personalized follow-up and dedicated therapy support, our team is with you every step of the way to ensure a safe and successful recovery from day one.
