Walnut Valley Festival Performances
One of my most favorite music festivals is what a lot of us just call "Winfield". It's famous in our circles for hosting the national mountain dulcimer championship as well as many other contests. The campground is buzzing with thousands of jammers around the clock. It's just a really fantastically good time.
Hammered dulcimer player Mark Alan Wade is one of the hired performers at Winfield this year. He contacted me last week to tell me his guitarist had to cancel and to ask me if I could join in last minute.
The first dulcimer festival I attended was in Coschocton, OH, back in the early 90s. I entered the contest and ended up winning first place. Mark was also there to enter the hammered contest. He got first place as well. For me, it's pretty special to have known him all these years and to now have an opportunity to perform about 8 concerts with him in less than a month.
There's a chance I will be offering a single afternoon dulcimer workshop the Wednesday before the event. It might work out; it might not. I'm waiting for it to be approved. I'll let everyone know as soon as it is.
In the meantime, check out https://www.wvfest.com/. This is the biggest world stage for our instrument. Please consider supporting our musical cause by attending or even entering the mountain dulcimer contest. Hope to see you there!
