Greetings from Our Geodome!

Spring has sprung at The Foundation School at Blair G. Ewing! Students and staff have been preparing for the upcoming warm weather with the newest addition to our school grounds, the Geodome Greenhouse. Did you know that geodomes are able to use more daylight and allow more sunlight to enter at any angle compared to a standard rectangular greenhouse? Applying lessons in science, math, engineering, and art, we first practiced building miniature geodomes in the classroom.

Students were then excited to work together and assemble the final Geodome Greenhouse, which is home to a series of raised beds that will nurture the vegetable seeds we planted. The Geodome has been a great exercise in experiential learning and we can’t wait to enjoy our incoming harvest!
Breaktime at Blair G. Ewing!

There are endless possibilities for breaktime activities! Students love getting active during the day competing at our baseball diamond and playing across our many fields. The benefits of physical activity are amazing: reducing stress and disruptive behaviors, improving concentration and memory, and enhancing overall cognitive function (Anxiety and Depression Association of America, 2021). With warmer weather on its way, we are excited to continue offering our students more opportunities to explore the world of sports and recreation.
Life Skills Lessons

Sometimes our students are dealing with a lot which leads to struggle with essential life skills, like cooking. Cooking lessons can also be limited to opportunities at home, which can vary from household to household. To close this gap, students watched a video in class on salmonella and how to safely prepare raw meat to create nutritious meals. Together, we made a delicious mid-day snack!
