Celebrating Black History Month
One of our most anticipated annual Black History Month events is our Living Museum. This museum offers students, parents, and staff the opportunity to “meet” celebrities, politicians, scientists, and athletes who have become heroes in the African American community. With the push of a “button,” students recited a brief history showcasing the accomplishments of their chosen historical figure. Our young students are inspired to dream bigger thanks to these meetings with their heroes.

What Shall We Do with the Angry Monster?
Our clinical department has been working with students to help them learn how to regulate emotions. To practice how to manage feelings of anger and frustration, our students learned about anger management by creating their own “angry monster.” Students also practiced their public speaking skills as they shared their drawings with the class.

Met Cherish the Snake!
Classroom pets are an educational and enriching learning experience for students, giving them a sense of responsibility and safety. Our middle school students invited one of our elementary school classes to visit Cherish, their pet corn snake. Some of our students were apprehensive, but thanks to our amazing dedicated aide Mr. Dixon they were able to overcome their hesitation and enjoy the meet and greet with Cherish!

Books, Books and More Books!
We love reading! Ms. Phang, our school librarian, hosted our annual No-Cost Book Fair in December. Thanks to your kind donations during the Book Fair Drive, our students were able to choose two new books to take home and read over the holiday break. Students were all smiles as they enjoyed stories from their favorite characters and learned about the planets, penguins, and sports. Our students’ favorite selections included Star Wars, Dog Man, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Meet our Staff of the Quarter!
Our lower school administrators proudly present Ms. Johnson as our Staff of the Second Quarter! Ms. Johnson is described by staff as a team member who is always dependable and willing to do whatever needs to be done to support her team and our students. She has taken on several roles this school year, growing professionally while learning how to best support our classrooms! Her gentle, therapeutic, and reliable nature instantly earns the trust of students and promotes the core values of The Foundation Schools!

Hello, all Foundation families and supporters! Thank you for all your support throughout the start of the 2022-2023 school year. We are very proud of how well our students are doing this year and are excited to continue helping them reach their goals. |

Dean's List and Other Academic Success
The high school program is very proud to announce that we now have 13 students that made honor roll in the second quarter. We want to give a huge shoutout to our tenth grade student, Daniel! He earned a perfect 4.0 GPA and is our first student on the Dean’s List.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
We are proud to share about our two successful PBIS-level field trips this year. Field trips are earned by reaching a series of behavior and attendance goals for more than four weeks each quarter. Students had a blast at the Baltimore Aquarium and the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum. Both trips were filled with excitement as students learned a lot of new information and broadened their worldview while having a fun day in Baltimore.

Safe Dates
Our clinical department, supporting our students’ emotional and therapeutic health, has implemented the Safe Dates curriculum with students. Safe Dates is “a school-based prevention program for middle and high school students designed to stop or prevent the initiation of dating violence victimization and perpetration” (National Institute of Justice). While in small groups and guided by staff, students are able to discuss positive and negative dating experiences that have impacted their lives, including topics like consent, abuse, and healthy relationships.

Staff Shout Outs
A huge shoutout goes to our clinical department! Mrs. McDaniels, Ms. Manley, Ms. Kulnis, and Ms. McAlpine have done an excellent job providing therapeutic support to our students. We also want to give a special thank you to Dr. Benoit, Ms. Jenna, and Ms. Lowe for your support as well!
