A Word From Mark
Dear Friends of WTLC,

As many of you are aware, January 20, 2021 was a history-making moment as Kamala Harris was sworn in as the Vice President of the United States, breaking multiple barriers as the first woman to serve in this position, as well as the first woman of color, the first Black woman, and the first South Asian woman.

Her rise to this position was paved by Victoria Woodhull, the first woman to run for the U.S. presidency in 1872; Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman major-party candidate for vice president in 1984; and Hillary Clinton, the first woman to win the presidential nomination of a major political party in 2016.

This, to me, is so important. When President Biden delivers his State of the Union address, Vice President Harris and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will be seated physically behind him and symbolically beside him. Imagine the impact such a visual will have on the younger generations watching and how this symbolic representation will be powerful enough to one day cause social and cultural shifts toward increased gender and racial equality.

With appreciation,

This February 10, 2021 join WTLC as we and 9 other nonprofits around Orange County work collaboratively to raise $100,000 in support of healthy teen relationships.

Together, we can create healthier and safer futures for teens in Orange County by raising $15,000 on February 10th.

Here are 3 ways YOU can show your LOVE this Giving Day!
  1. On February 10th, 2021 make a donation on our Love Is Giving Day page and share it with your friends and family. Each dollar you donate will be matched!
  2. Share about Love Is Giving Day with two of your friends and ask them to donate or join you for spirit week.
  3. Show your support by joining us for one or all days of WTLC's LOVE IS SPIRIT week (see spirit days below)! Be sure to snap a photo of yourself showing your spirit and posting it on social media with #LoveIsOC so we can share it with our followers!
Thank You to WTLC H.E.R.O.S
Last month, we said thank you to our 2020 Golden Age of Hollywood “Best Picture” Sponsors, each of whom chose to convert their $5,000 sponsorship into a full donation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This month, we would like to similarly recognize our “Best Director” sponsors who chose to support our programs at the $2,500 level even after our event was cancelled in March.

Thank you to Pacific Premier Bank, PepsiCo, Premier Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Buena Park, RDM General Contractors, James Le & Mark Lee, and an Anonymous Donor for your commitment to the survivors in our community. We could not do this work without you!
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
February is known as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM). Teen dating violence is a systemic issue that impacts everyone from parents, teachers, friends, communities, and the teens themselves. It is estimated 1 in 10 teens will experience dating violence at some point. We must take this opportunity to amplify our efforts and shine a spotlight on this important issue by taking a minute to understand the significance of this issue for this is an epidemic of its own. Nationwide, youth ages 12 to 19 experience the highest rates of rape and sexual assault. That is approximately 10% of adolescents that report being the victim of physical violence at the hands of an intimate partner during the previous year.
Holistic Health is Caring for the Whole Person
WTLC has long been known for its comprehensive programing and commitment to serving all survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. This well-rounded commitment to excellence now includes holistic services that utilize the healing power of animals, crafting, and gardening.

The aim of holistic therapy is to achieve optimal health and wellness by honoring all parts of a person; including their mind, body, and emotions. WTLC has always sought to address the physical and emotional needs of its survivors by providing the tools and resources to increase self-esteem and create empowerment. Our newest tools offered will take place in the form of Animal Assisted Therapy and a regularly occurring Bloom and Grow Workshop.
Photos from WTLC's first Animal Assisted Therapy event on January 8th. Animal Assisted Therapy will occur on a bimonthly basis every first and third Thursday of the month from 1:30-2:15pm. Call WTLC's Helpline at 877-531-5522 or Text/Email love@wtlc.org to register. Space is limited.
