Brightpoint
Brightpoint is a nonprofit organization, headquartered in Fort Wayne and serving individuals in northeast Indiana. Its mission is to help communities, families, and individuals remove the causes and conditions of poverty. In Steuben County, about 3000 people live below the poverty line. In reality, Brightpoint views its population as those who earn up to 200% of the poverty line. When you consider the number of families struggling with daily expenses, basic needs, and who are in need of extra help, that number is closer to 10,000 families who rely on support from organizations like Brightpoint. Although there are federally funded programs for individuals living below the poverty line, Brightpoint steps in to help with rent, childcare, utility assistance, and other resources for people who are still in need.

SCCF GRANTS FOR 2021-2022
|
|
Dear Grantees,
SCCF is ready for a new fiscal year and new grant cycles. The Spirit of Community Fund is our unrestricted grantmaking fund for grants that use an application. Nonprofits that serve Steuben County can submit their applications for this fund through our online grants portal. Select the grant cycle that most closely fits the scope of your program.
SCCF is excited to offer another Impact Grant this year. This multi-year grant is intended to support a collaborative, innovative project that includes a plan for sustainability. In 2020, we awarded our first Impact Grant to Easterseals RISE and the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation. You can read more about that project here.
Sincerely,
Jacqui Gentile
SCCF Program Officer

SCCF is hosting an optional Q&A session for anyone who is new to applying for grants or wants to ask specific questions about the process. If you are considering applying for an Impact Grant, we encourage you to attend.
The Q&A will be held on June 28 from 1:00-2:00 pm. During the first 30 minutes, SCCF staff members Jacqui Gentile and JoAnna Ness will answer questions about SCCF’s 2021-2022 grant cycles. During the second half of the meeting, Jessica Brodock, Executive Director of Steuben County United Way, will join to provide information about the Steuben County Disaster Response Fund for COVID-19 relief grants. See new guidelines for these grants at https://steubenfoundation.org/covid19/.
This event is scheduled to take place virtually via Zoom. You may join the meeting for a few minutes to ask specific questions or stay for the entire time period – that’s up to you! SCCF has space available for attendance in person at the SCCF office. If you do not have access to Zoom, please contact us in advance so we can set up technology at the SCCF office for you to participate.

UPCOMING NONPROFIT TRAINING
|
|
Conflict is an inevitable part of every organization. Nonprofit leaders are often faced with managing conflict in a variety of areas involving staff, volunteers, and board members. This workshop will provide some tools for staying grounded in the organization’s mission and identifying how to avoid conflict as well as ways to handle conflict effectively. Rob Moreland, SCCF board member and local attorney, will be the workshop presenter. Anyone who leads or volunteers with a nonprofit is welcome to register for this event.
Location: The workshop will take place in person at the SCCF office. However, those who prefer to participate virtually may join via Zoom. The SCCF office is located at 1701 N. Wayne St in Angola.
This workshop will take place on June 16, 2021, from 1:00-2:30pm.
