Week of February 10, 2020

Dear Friend,

Since we have a couple of weeks before our next concert, I think it’s a perfect opportunity to introduce you to another member of the wonderful staff at the Chamber Music Society of Detroit.  Danny DeRose joined us just over a year ago as Director of Development & Marketing, and for longer than that he’s worked with the CMSD as our go-to guy at other partnering organizations.

We're thrilled to have him on our team!
To begin with, Danny is a gifted musician and an accomplished violist. Originally from East Lansing, he began his studies with a private teacher in his neighborhood community music school, continuing in his public school string program. He then decided that Detroit was where he wanted to be, and did his undergraduate studies at Wayne State in ,performance, followed by completing two master’s degrees, in both performance and chamber music, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. His teacher at both institutions was none other than the Detroit Symphony's violist Caroline Coade.
While in graduate school, Danny met his husband, Vinnie Roberts, a graphic designer and production artist at Campbell Ewald, and the two decided to make Detroit their home – a home that now includes their 11-year-old Greyhound Ellie and 6-year-old cat Frank.
Danny’s professional career started quickly after he finished school. Literally the day after he graduated from Michigan, the Detroit Symphony hired him as their new Education Coordinator. This is where Danny realized his passion for music education. Still an active educator, Danny currently has 10 private students, conducts one of the youth orchestras in the Civic Youth Ensembles program at the DSO (pictured below), and teaches adult beginners at the MSU Community Music School in Detroit.
After the DSO, Danny held positions in the Department of Music at Wayne State and the School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Oakland University, serving in both places as a key partner with the CMSD in the concert series we present there.  So he was an obvious choice when a position opened up here!

At the CMSD now, Danny manages much of our external fundraising efforts, connecting with new and existing individual donors, corporations, and foundations. He tells the story of the CMSD and its important role in the fabric of Detroit performing arts organizations. Additionally, Danny manages the marketing of our organization. From promotional print materials, to our web and social media presence, he focuses intensely on getting the word out about our outstanding performers and performances all over Metro Detroit.
Speaking of performances, Danny of course would want me to tell you about our next two concerts, which feature the amazing young violinist, Randall Goosby, in his Detroit recital debut. He is a protégé of the great violinist, Itzak Perlman, with whom he appeared earlier this year as soloist with the Grand Rapids Symphony. He got on our radar screen when we heard him in the Sphinx Competition Finals a few years ago; we were so impressed we engaged him immediately.

There will be two opportunities to hear Randall: in Midtown Detroit at Wayne State’s Schaver Recital Hall on Friday, February 28; and at the Northbrook Presbyterian Church in Beverly Hills on Saturday, February 29.

So the next time you see Danny at one of our concerts, please tell him how much we all love having him as a part of the CMSD family.

And he'll tell you how much we love having you as a part of it, too!

See you at the concerts -
