This Sunday

This Week in Worship

This Sunday is Stewardship Sunday when we kick off our fall pledge drive with the theme "Generations of Generosity". Particularly as we approach All Souls and All Saints Days, those who have preceded us in previous generations are close to our minds and hearts. And as we remember them we can also be mindful of the foundation we create for those generations who will come after us. And all of this we do within a church of many generations. We believe in a generous God who asks us to be generous people in this world and this Sunday we hope to inspire that through prayer, scripture, song and the baptisms of three young ones of a new generation! We hope you'll come join us in person or online at 10am.

Roots and Branches group Sunday after church THIS Sunday

Did the Roots and Branches sign-up catch your interest, but you didn’t feel ready to commit to regular meetings? Do you need childcare to attend? This year, we are adding a group held immediately after 10 o’clock worship, for which there will be no sign-up, but there WILL be childcare. Our first meeting is this Sunday, Oct 29, followed by Nov 19. We’ll then take a break until January. The group leaders will be Liz Sayre and Elizabeth Page. We’ll meet in Reverend Will’s office while children will gather with Maggie for refreshments in Chidley and then go to the playground.

Children & Youth

Stepping Stones will be focusing on generosity this Sunday as we start a special service project together.

Junior Forum will also be talking about what it means to be a “cheerful giver” while we make sandwiches for Outdoor Church.  We need to make 100 sandwiches to make so I hope we have lots of friends on Sunday.

Forum will be meeting at 7:00 PM for a special All Saints’ - All Souls’ gathering.

Save the Date. The Children and Youth Faith Formation Ministry and the Ryan Family are hosting a Parent Social on Sunday, November 5th 4-6 PM. Look for an evite or contact Maggie for more information and to RSVP.

Ripley Presents: STEPHEN P. KIERNAN, Author Reading & Book Signing

Friday, November 3, 7:30 p.m., in the Sanctuary.

kiernan

Please join us for a unique and moving event, featuring critically acclaimed author, Stephen P. Kiernan. After last year’s triumphant reading from Universe of Two, Kiernan returns to Winchester to celebrate the release of his newest book, The Glass Chateau, inspired by the life of Marc Chagall - a gripping tale of hope, healing, and the redemptive power of art, set against the turmoil of post-World War II France The novel features the art of stained glass: the transformative act of turning sand into glass, and glass into beautiful windows.

And remember to shop local! Book Ends will stock The Glass Chateau soon.

Introduction to SoulCollage®

Dream. Imagine. Create

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2023, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Live in-person from the stunning Ripley Chapel at First Congregational Church, Winchester. Jane Ring Frank, certified SoulCollage® facilitator, will offer an introduction workshop to this deep, spiritual practice on Saturday, November 4, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.

SoulCollage® is a collage process for accessing your intuitive wisdom. Even though this is an “art project,” it is accessible, and anyone can do it. You don’t need to be an artist to create beautiful SoulCollage® cards with rich meaning and messages for your life. The practice was created by Seena Frost, M. Div., M.A in the late 1990’s as she was working with clients in California.

All materials and direction are included to inspire your creative journey. Using scissors, glue, images, photos, and 8” X 5” mat board, you will be led on a path of self-discovery. We are all born creative and spend our adult lives separating ourselves from that natural spark. No art experience necessary.....Read more

Maeve

11/5/23 Congregational Meeting to Vote on Maeve Hammond as Associate Pastor

We are delighted to invite you to a brief congregational meeting immediately after worship on Sunday 11/5/23 in the sanctuary. The purpose is to consider and act upon the nomination of Maeve Hammond as FCCW’s Associate Pastor. As you know, Maeve joined us about a year ago as Pastoral Resident. She has been leading worship, working closely with Forum and Jr. Forum, Health Ministry, Outreach, and providing pastoral care to our congregation, among other meaningful activities. On March 26th, 2023, Maeve was ordained into the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) during a beautiful ceremony with friends and family in our sanctuary. Her ordained status now makes it possible for us to take the exciting step of naming Maeve our Associate Pastor. We are so pleased that Maeve is a part of our spiritual family.

Please join us in person or online!

Sincerely,

Sarah Gallop for The Leadership Team, with Rev. Will Burhans
