| | A Lasting Legacy Through Art: Our New Mural | |
We are incredibly grateful to the Public Art for All grant for their generous support in helping us create something truly special—a vibrant and lasting mosaic mural that now welcomes every guest, caregiver, and visitor who walks through our doors.
In collaboration with Arts with a Purpose and the talented local artist Giselle Trujillo, this project became more than just art—it became a reflection of our community’s spirit, resilience, and creativity.
Over the course of six months, Giselle worked hand-in-hand with our guests, guiding them in the careful placement of colorful tiles, each one carrying its own story, memory, and meaning. For many, it was a chance to express themselves in a new way, to find joy in creating something beautiful, and to feel connected to something bigger.
This mural isn’t just a decoration—it’s a legacy. A symbol of what’s possible when art, aging, and community come together with purpose and heart.
We invite you to come see the mural for yourself—it's proudly displayed on the front porch of our center. Stop by, take it in, and know that every tile was placed with love.
Thank you again to the Indy Arts Council, Giselle Trujillo, and Arts with a Purpose for helping bring our vision to life. This mural will continue to inspire and bring joy for years to come.

Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia often means navigating changes in mood and behavior—challenges that can feel overwhelming without the right tools and support.
Join us on April 18th for an informative and compassionate session led by Dr. Wang, a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist and Alzheimer’s disease specialist. In this 90-minute program, Dr. Wang will share insight into the appropriate and effective use of psychiatric medications to help manage behavioral symptoms related to dementia.
This session will include a lively discussion and Q&A, offering guidance for caregivers and families seeking to better understand treatment options and how to support their loved ones with compassion and clarity.
This event is free and open to the community—we encourage anyone impacted by dementia, professionally or personally, to attend.
| | A Journey of Love, Healing, and Hope: Mr. Jim & Ms. Pat’s Story | |
Every once in a while, we witness something so touching, so powerful, that it reminds us exactly why adult day centers like Still Waters exist.
Eight months ago, Mr. Jim walked into our center with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit. He was seeking support for his beloved wife, Ms. Pat, who had spent her younger years as a vibrant airline stewardess, traveling the skies with grace and adventure. But in recent years, life had changed. A series of illnesses had made walking difficult for Ms. Pat, and leaving the house had become nearly impossible.
Mr. Jim was determined to help her regain some joy and connection. Gently, and with a bit of persuasion, he encouraged her to give Still Waters a try—even though she was reluctant at first.
To his surprise and joy, Ms. Pat began to thrive. She found friendship in the other guests, smiled during our music sessions, and began to participate in the daily activities. Week by week, we saw her light return.
Today, eight months later, something incredible has happened: Mr. Jim and Ms. Pat have booked a cruise down the Mississippi River on a paddle boat this May—a dream trip that once felt out of reach.
As Mr. Jim shared a cherished photo from the 1980s of their family, he smiled and said, “We don’t have many recent photos together because of everything she’s gone through... but now, we will.”
This is the magic of adult day centers. It’s more than just care—it’s community, healing, and hope.
Thank you, Mr. Jim and Ms. Pat, for reminding us what’s possible when love is met with support and encouragement. We can’t wait to see the new photos from your cruise.
| | This Month’s Virtual Road Trip: Limberlost & T.C. Steele Historic Sites | |
Thanks to the generous support of the Indiana Humanities Grant and our wonderful partnership with the Indiana State Museum, our guests are hitting the road—virtually!
This month, we're exploring two of Indiana’s most treasured historical gems: Limberlost and the T.C. Steele State Historic Site. While many of our guests are unable to visit these locations in person, this grant allows us to bring the history to them, creating meaningful and immersive experiences right from our center.
Limberlost: Once a vast and mysterious wetland in northeastern Indiana, Limberlost is the legendary home of naturalist and author Gene Stratton-Porter. Her writings and photographs captured the beauty and biodiversity of the region, and her home still reflects her passion for nature and conservation. Through our virtual visit, guests will discover the magic of her life’s work and the incredible natural habitat she fought to protect.
T.C. Steele Historic Site: Nestled in the rolling hills of Brown County, this site celebrates the legacy of Indiana’s most famous impressionist painter, Theodore Clement Steele. Guests will enjoy a virtual stroll through his home and studio, learning how Steele’s deep love for Indiana landscapes inspired his vibrant brushstrokes and enduring art. His story is one of creativity, passion, and a deep connection to the land.
These virtual field trips offer more than just education—they spark memories, conversation, and inspiration. For our guests, many of whom have spent decades living in Indiana, it’s a chance to reconnect with the cultural and natural history of their home state.
We’re deeply grateful to Indiana Humanities and the Indiana State Museum for helping us bring these stories to life. Stay tuned as we continue our journey through Indiana’s rich heritage—one virtual stop at a time.
