Community Collaboration for Health Equity Grant Awarded!

Bringing More Music, Movement, and Joy to Still Waters

We are thrilled to announce that Still Waters has received funding through the Community Collaboration for Health Equity Grant to expand our adaptive fitness offerings! With this support, we are building on the success of last year's pilot and introducing a weekly Music & Movement Program led by Gizelle from Arts with a Purpose.

Through our previous efforts, we discovered that while traditional fitness classes can be challenging for many of our guests, especially those living with cognitive or physical limitations, music and dance open a new path for engagement. By weaving in rhythm, song, and joyful movement, guests are more likely to participate, smile, and stay active.

Gizelle's sessions are far more than just exercise; they're an opportunity for laughter, expression, and connection. Whether seated or standing, everyone can join in, clap along, sway to the beat, and enjoy the therapeutic power of music.

This program is made possible thanks to our ongoing partnerships and the shared belief that health equity includes accessible wellness opportunities for all. We can't wait to see the energy and joy this brings to our center each week.

Stay tuned for photos, stories, and guest highlights from the sessions!

Open House Celebration a Huge Success!

A Day of Community, Connection, and New Beginnings

We are thrilled to share that our recent Still Waters Open House was a resounding success! With over 70 guests in attendance, the center was filled with energy, laughter, and meaningful conversations as we welcomed community members, partners, families, and friends to see all the incredible things happening here.

The highlight of the day was our official ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, marking an exciting new chapter for our center. The Chamber's support reminds us of the vital importance of strong community connections in our mission to provide compassionate and engaging care for seniors and their families.

Guests enjoyed tours of our updated spaces, including The Gathering Place, mobility park, and our newly expanded garden area. They also had the opportunity to meet our dedicated team, learn about our programs, and witness firsthand how we create a safe and joyful environment for older adults living with cognitive and physical challenges.

This event was not only a celebration, but it was a statement of growth, collaboration, and impact. We are grateful to everyone who attended, asked questions, showed support, and shared our vision of aging with dignity, purpose, and joy.

Thank you to our guests, volunteers, community leaders, and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce for making this day one to remember.

The future is bright at Still Waters—and it's because of YOU.

Friends Beyond Language

How Connection and Compassion Transcend Words

At Still Waters, we witness the extraordinary every day...and sometimes it comes in the quietest moments.

When a new Spanish-speaking guest recently joined our community, we also welcomed another guest who was unsure about attending the center. She was hesitant, quiet, and uncertain if she would find comfort here. But in just three short weeks, something beautiful happened. These two women, who speak different languages and both live with dementia, found a bond that needed no words.

They walk together daily, sit side by side during programs, and share gentle smiles and laughter. Their friendship is built on presence, understanding, and the unspoken language of kindness. Watching them, we are reminded that dementia may change how someone communicates, but it does not take away their capacity to love, connect, or find joy in companionship.

Caring for someone with dementia means learning to listen with more than just our ears. A shared look, a soft touch, a hand to hold, or even the rhythm of walking side by side can say more than words ever could. Relationships are not dependent on conversation—they are built on patience, compassion, and being present in the moment.

This story is a powerful reminder: love does not need translation. And in the world of dementia care, the most meaningful connections often happen without saying a single word.

Bienvenidos, Javier & Belinda!

Welcoming Our New Bilingual Team Members

We are excited to introduce the two newest members of our Still Waters team, Javier and Belinda! As our center continues to grow, so does the diversity of the guests we serve. In particular, we have seen an increase in Hispanic seniors and families seeking support, connection, and culturally responsive care.

Recognizing this, we knew it was essential to recruit team members who could not only communicate in Spanish but also understand the cultural values that are deeply important to the families we serve. Javier and Belinda, both bilingual and bicultural, have already made a meaningful impact on our guests.

From assisting with daily care and communicating with families to bringing warmth and comfort to those who feel most at home speaking Spanish, they are helping bridge language gaps and ensure that every guest at Still Waters feels seen, heard, and valued.

We are grateful to have them on our team and look forward to the many ways they will help us deepen our commitment to equity, inclusion, and compassionate care for all.

¡Bienvenidos al equipo! Welcome to the team!

From Seed to Bloom: Growing Together in Our Garden

A Place to Nurture Roots, Relationships, and Renewal

There's something sacred about a garden, watching new life emerge from soil, nurturing it with patience and care, and witnessing transformation over time.

This season, our garden at Still Waters has grown into something more than just raised beds of vegetables. With the help of the Shamrock Garden Club, Boy Scouts from Troop 276, and the Purdue Extension Marion County Master Gardeners, we've expanded our space to welcome guests, their families, and even community members to grow their own plots alongside us.

From the very first sprout to our recent harvest of fresh lettuce, we've seen how a garden doesn't just nourish the body, it feeds the soul. Guests light up when they check the progress of the plants. Families connect as they water, weed, and tend the soil together. And neighbors find common ground, quite literally, as they share stories over rows of tomatoes and herbs.

A garden is much like our seniors at the center. Each one carries history, deep roots formed over a lifetime of experiences. Some may appear weathered by time, but with sunlight, care, and attention, they blossom in extraordinary ways. They just need a place to grow, to feel valued, and to know they are not alone in the season they are in.

Thank you to all who made this possible. The garden is a living testament to the community we've built, one that sees every life as worthy of tending, every season worth celebrating, and every person full of potential.

Here at Still Waters, we're not just growing vegetables, we're growing connection, joy, and dignity. One seed at a time.

Seniors Show Their Pacers Pride!

Cheering Loud, Living Proud—Go Pacers!

At Still Waters, we know that community spirit doesn't fade with age, and neither does team pride! During the recent Pacers playoff run, our center was buzzing with excitement as our senior guests came together to show their unwavering support for Indiana's beloved basketball team.

Decked out in Pacers gear, blue and gold beads, hats, and jerseys, our guests brought the energy as they cheered from the comfort of the center. From reminiscing about Reggie Miller's glory days to sharing favorite memories of games past, it was more than just basketball - it was a connection, laughter, and joy.

One guest proudly said, "I may not get to the arena, but I still know how to cheer!" And cheer they did with homemade signs, themed snacks, and even a little dance when the Pacers took the lead!

These moments remind us of the importance of staying connected to our passions. Whether it's music, gardening, or basketball, celebrating together builds community and lifts spirits.

The Pacers may be the team on the court, but here at Still Waters, we have our own team of champions, our seniors, who bring heart and spirit to everything they do.

Let's go Pacers—then, now, and always!
